Interesting Tidbit About The 1985-86 Chicago Bulls...

They had both Michael Jordan AND George Gervin on the roster! The Iceman was traded to Chicago in October of 1985, so where was the fanfare? Sure Michael was injured for most of that season before that legendary series vs. Boston, but why hasn't this received much attention? This could have been a crude version of Michael-Scottie before it even happened!

That team could have done some interesting work then if they had kept them around. The lineup would have looked probably like...

PG - John Paxson
SG - Michael Jordan
SF - George Gervin
PF - Orlando Woolridge
C - Artis Gilmore

Gervin was out of prime then. He wasn't even the best player on that Bulls team without Jordan.

That's not actually true.

Gervin played a little over 25 mpg and scored over 16 ppg.

Add Gervin's 16-18 ppg average and Woolridge's all around game and you would have made a decent team before their time.

I see. That's true as well. Would that trade for Cartwright have happened anyways? Yeah I think it would have since Artis was getting older...

He coked his way out of the league. Jordan said some of his early teams had great talent, it was just wasted on guys who would be doing lines in their hotel rooms.

Chicago cleaned house on all of those guys pretty quick.

To be fair a lot of player were on coke back in those days. Gervin was a shell of himself so that team didn't have that much potential. Paxson wasn't in his prime yet, Jordan was still more concerned with his numbers than winning championships, and Cartwright was Cartwright.

IMO Paxson was the kind of player that was in his prime all the time. Just your typical neighborhood role player/spot up shooter.
