Willie Green shooting blanks

Post#1 » by is1531 » Sat Mar 29, 2008 10:50 pm

Willlie Green has been as a cold as an icecube in the last 5 games in which the 76ers went 3-2. Green has shot 11-55 in the last 5 games which is a wopping 20% from the field. These numbers are a disaster as we approach the playoffs.

I understand the 76ers are having a great run right now, but how long is Cheeks going to stick with clankshot Willie. We do not want to be in a position in the first round of the playoffs when our starting lineup puts us in a hole in the same fashion as the Phoenix game.

This season to me is all plus so far, but I would give Carney a chance to start some games in Green's place. It could be a big plus for both Carney and Green. The thing about Green is, he is a good dribbler, can create his own shot, but the ball does not go in. He definitely is not a great finisher on fast brakes. He also hears footsteps many times on fast brakes. Green is a not a legit starter anyway, so let him come of the bench where he can help us. I prefer Danny Green. It's nice to dream.

I thought from the title we were going to be talking about Willie switching to boxer shorts...

As long as Willie is the starter we'll never be an elite team. Thats why I wasnt that surprised that they started off so slow against Phoenix. You cant play Reggie Evans and Willie Green and expect to get your offense going. Even Andre Miller wasnt hitting any shots. It looked like Iguodala was playing by himself.

Well,

If you've read any of my posts the last couple weeks, you'd know I'm completely on board with benching Willie and Reggie.

Reggie's game is so much better suited to come in and bring some energy. And Willie might be somewhat useful as a reserve when he's "hot" (Warning: Willie hot is barely acceptable).

No reason on earth that we don't go with one of the 3 following starting lineups:

Miller, Iggy, Young, Reggie, Daly
Miller, Carney, Iggy, Young, Daly
Miller, Lou, Iggy, Young, Daly

I could agree with you on this. But not this ...

(Warning: Willie hot is barely acceptable)

Willie HOT is lights out unstoppable.

And I think that eventually Willie's role will be as a bench player. He is a shooter and is most comfortable when allowed to put it up frequently. He may even be more relaxed and more effective in that role.

I doubt we see any major shake-up this late in the season- especially given our recent success. I do completely agree, and have posted too many times to count, that we need to upgrade the starters at SG and PF.

Mo should remember this recent hot streak was keyed by starting Thad, and I can see him going back to bringing Evans off the bench. Unfortunately, benching Willie is too much out of the box type thinking for Mo this late in the season (as much as it would be the correct thing to do.)

I think we should settle Iguodala at the two position if we really want to establish Thad as our future SF. Therefore I don't really think acquiring a SG is a necessity.

I agree, switching Dala to SG would count as an upgrade. Also, if we acquired another PF/SF like Josh Smith, starting Thad as the defacto PF would also be an "upgrade."

Any way we don't start Evans and Green is an improvement given they are the two worst starters at their position of all 30 NBA teams.

I just don't know if Willie will escape the freezer. At some point you have to thaw out, but when? Those long rebounds on his outside shots become fast break baskets on the other end. Willie can be a good backup player, but his limitations as a starter are there for everybody to see.

Willie we need you to shoot 6-10 against the Cavs today.

Willie needs to stop shooting jumpers, period.

He can try an open three, but if he misses two, then no more outside shots.
