Spencer Hawes "Disgusted" with what is happening

As a lead in to tonight's game between the Kings and the Sonics, the Sacramento Bee spoke with Spencer about his feelings towards the Sonics' situation. In case there was any doubt, he is as disgusted as any other Seattle Supersonics fan.

It's nice to hear an NBA player ANY NBA player speak out against what is going on. I don't think Ray Allen or Rashard Lewis have stuck out their neck to express their opinion of what is happening. At least not in the way Hawes did with disgust and emotion.

thats a good article. I wonder if any of the local papers have tried to get ahold of any of the other NBA players that are from Seattle, even the guys that are from Seattle and are playing in college still.

I think Rashard said that he would never play in OKC along time ago.

But i think it's normal for someone from this era to talk about it that way, when even guys like Shaq or Grant Hill can't understand why they would move this team.


BTW: Brian wrote on the Sonicscentral forum that news about the KeyArena re-model are expected sometime this week. He sounds pretty confident that this will be positive news.

This whole thing has been nothing but fan abuse from every angle. Bennett abusing the fans, Schultz abusing the fans, the state government abusing the fans, Stern abusing the fans....what an orgy of mistreatment and disrespect for Seattle fans all the way around.

You'd think from this that Seattle was some 2nd class sports town, which is a steaming pile of crap from the point of view of anyone who lives her. Jesus, we've recently built two of the greatest sports facilities in baseball and football, have made major renovations to Hec Ed, probably have major renovations to Husky stadium coming...Seattle fans are quite supportive of their teams.

The fact of the matter is that the Sonics situation is perhaps a victim of bad timing more than anything else. Civic money is hard to come by these days, especially when so much money is/has been ponied up of late for our sports infrastructures. The last thing we needed was two disingenuous owners who didn't have the necessary patience to see this through.

For some reason, I thought Ray Allen said something this summer. Does anybody else remember that? (I could be misremembering.)

yeah, i think you are right ben. i seem to remember ray saying something about it as well. something along the lines of "to a man every player in the league enjoys and looks forward to visiting seattle during the season", or something to that affect.

I was in Seattle last week and I totally love your city. I can't believe the NBA will allow your team to move. The Key Arena looked really good too. It's pathetic. Vancouver is a great city too. What the hell is Stern thinking?
