Wow, just hearing names like Stanley Roberts, Vaughn, Brooks Thompson and Brian Williams really brings back some memories of the old days.

the thing is unlike other teams, the magic don't get their share of steals or sleeper.

We do get our share but we trade them away, ie...Varajao

Redd, Arenas, Ginobli, Boozer, and Monta Ellis are sleepers. These are 2 bums and a backup big. Every team occasionally gets a contributor in the 2nd round, we just never get a real player.

For the record, the worst pick on sheer at the time stupidity is both picks in the Sasser/Hunter draft. So many good players were available in that draft that we almost had to try to not get a good player. Like always though, we were up to that challenge. I remember wanting Boozer and Tinsley. Ugh.

How many times do you remember that you wanted a guy that never lived up to his hype/potential?

The leitmotiv here is our mgmt wants to look smart going the alternative way but they always end up looking like total fools. I just hope they'll change M.O. in the future, picking talent where it is, not going with the unknown in hope of pulling another Kobe or Lebron out from a pile of crap.

(yeah, I know JJ is the exception aqnd was great in college, but he's not playing so he's another wasted pick as well)

i still have the 3 page sport illustrated reece gaines article somewehre in my cloest. it talked about how "good" he was..

and I believe we traded Borchardt for Humphrey

I remember Dick Vitale talking him up during the draft saying he would be the next Paul Pierce. Good analysis, Vitale. Did I mention that you suck your own first name?

I have been wrong plenty. I loved the Gaines pick when we made it. I love Skita, Darko, Morrison...I was very high on all 3. On my site I have had a pretty good track record picking the future stars and busts, but I have also missed plenty.
