Did anyone notice?

Post#1 » by 3-Pt_Shooter » Mon Mar 31, 2008 4:55 am

J.J. got a whopping 4-minutes of playing time against the Milwaukee Bucks last Friday, but still scored 6 points on 3-3 of shooting. Yeah, it was pretty much garbage time. However, it shows that J.J. does belong in the NBA and that he can get off his shot...

Plus he got two rebounds, but of the course those who love to hate Duke and anyone that played for Duke who is white will get trashed. You don't see them saying the same thing against players who aren't white for Duke and that is the saddest part about all of this.

yer i saw the game (one of the few magic games i got to see all season here in aus) but he looked good. It was complete garbage time but atleast he came on and looked aggresive and looked for his shot. I dont think 4 mins proves he can play in the nba... but atleast he got on the court.

Yeah, I know there is something about being a white player from Duke... it makes those players an automatic target for those Duke Haters out there. Even now, Kyle Singler is the new player that Duke Haters love to hate, which is pretty sad like you said.

The simple fact he's still playing garbage minutes tells a lot about SVG's faith in him, he's prolly showcasing himself to other teams, looking forward to the next season. Oh and I'm not a US resident so I don't give a crap about Duke.

Showcasing means to get 5 minutes in the middle of the forth, where all of the results matter, not 4 minutes at the end of a 20 point blow out.

Nobody cares if JJ goes 3-3 against D-league talent.

Stan will not play him in game 5 of a heated playoff battle, so "showcasing" is any single minute JJ can get. That was enough for Diener last season...

yea, way to go making it about race. JJ doesn't get time because he's poor defensively, has a height disadvantage and doesn't have the athleticism to make up for either of them.

Can he still find playing time in this league? absolutely. But for a team that doesn't have as many 3-point shooters as the Magic that are better overall players.

JJ was 3 for 3 on plays called for him, that hardly means he is capable of "getting his shot off". I consider "getting a shot off" to be creating a shot when one isn't there.

JJ needs plays called for him and screens to run off of to be effective. If he was playing with the starting lineup, as a coach you dont want to worry about calling plays for your 5th option on offense.

I also saw him get schooled on defense..the offense just drove right around him..of course dwight wasn't in the game to block the hots.

His defense on the perimeter resembles a giant orange cone.

He may have had a good garbage-time performance this time, but I have definitely seen him come in and look pretty terrible. He comes in sometimes and looks flustered, takes dumb shots, plays terrible defense... We all know he can shoot... I want to see him come out at the end of games and dish a few assists, drive the hole, and rebound... cuz without at least one or two of those, he won't get any PT as an undersized SG.

First time ina while I didn't see JJ hesitate as he was also actually setting his feet and his stance for the shots.

No one said that he doesn't get PT because he is white and played for Duke. The point was made that there is a rather large contingent of people out there that don't like and/or respect him because he played at Duke and was pretty successful there. I don't know if its really a white thing or not, but its for sure a Duke thing...

A few days ago someone praised Rip Hamilton for knowing how to use picks and screens. They also said that he was able to use his athleticism to get "separation" for his shot. But J.J. shows that he can do the same types of things, and then has people say that he sucks because he needs picks and screens to get his shot off.

Granted, his defense needs work. But you can't fault the guy for playing hard on both ends of the floor who has shown the willingness to be a team player (even though he's not getting the minutes he would like) and who wants to prove his worth.

LOL

JJ should go to Europe and play there, he would be much better playing under FIBA rules.

Funny thing is, when people "hate" on JJ, the most widely acclaimed comparison is Trajan Langdon.

You do realize that it's going to be hard for anyone to take you seriously, for reasons that need not even be stated.
