Damn, what a bad game from McGrady and Alston.

I watched the first quarter and McGrady was 3 - 7. Did he go 2 - 15 the rest of the game? Awful... :(

And our defense must have been atrocious. We gave up over 100 points to the Spurs?

Bad game but that was to be expected. Big teams like San Antonio just have too many weapons on the perimeter and in the post. I think we'll be fine for the remainder of the season but we just have to forget this loss ASAP and finish the season off strong.

Freakish scoring game from the Spurs.

AGREED! we see Batt in more Iso situations than Scola. Don't understand why RA hasn't gone to Scola in the post

Ayup. I been whining about this for ages too.

Missed the game, dagnabit. team was obviously missing my mighty focus.

but at least the evil jazz lost tonight as well. yay.

Terrible game, now the Rockets are 6th, tied with PHX record-wise.

Alston's role should be limited to bringing the ball up and distributing it to other teammates. He SHOULD NOT SHOOT THE BALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Spurs just changed up their defense. Earlier in the game McGrady would drive and there wouldn't be help.

Example: http://youtube.com/watch?v=aYXC1BU4M_g

After that first quarter Bowen would just give him a lane to the basket and Mac would get bum rushed by 3 defenders in the paint. It looked like he just got tired of driving at that point and started jacking up jumpers =\.

This game would have been different with Bonzi Wells. I can't believe we gave up our best back up swing that is easily a top 10 in this league. **** the luxury tax, we needed Wells even if we had to keep James.

...And have him be another Chuck Hayes on offense who no one so much as passingly thinks about guarding? No thanks. You're also neglecting that Alston is our second best guy at getting off a shot right now (and also that McGrady shot worse).

While I much prefer Scola taking shots to Rafer, the defenses usually put more focus on him when he starts shooting too much. Rafer taking perimeter-initiated shots helps free up our other options.

Bobby Jackson is playing hella better for us than Bonzi was (top 10 swing at 42%? please.), AND we finally dumped the horrible Howard/James contract, yet you continue to think it was a bad trade. The only way it's been bad is that he's playing better for NO than he was for us, which means we gave them another weapon. Both teams benefitted, that's what should ideally happen in any good trade.

Agreed with Shabi's post too.

---

I kinda think we've just worn down a bit playing all these games without Yao, which it looked like we could easily do when he first went down. That would explain a lot of our sorry defense of late, as a lot of it is built around hustle.

Bobby Jax is a good backup pg. I just still think it might have been possible to dump Snyder/James and keep Bonzi while still acquiring Wells. That way we retain one of the better swings come playoff time or a matchup against teams like the Spurs. Imagine if we still had Wells, I think not only does the winning streak continue but we also got BJax to compliment as well. BJax's play doesn't make up for a lack of a swing. We tossed 2 away in Wells and Snyder and Tmac is feelin' the hurt of having to play so many minutes.

If it had been possible, I'm sure Morey would have gone for that instead. Remember, New Orleans dumped Snyder to us for a second round pick. Doing that trade would have amounted to giving us Bobby Jackson and taking a bad contract off our hands in exchange for a second rounder. No GM in his right mind would do that.

Building a team is a process. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. You try to position yourself as well as you can while working with what you have, but still rely on some luck.

Neither are other teams going to want to help us out in exchange for our garbage, contrary to the opinions of a lot of people here. So far, Morey has been nothing but brilliant (and yes, I'm including the James and Francis moves for prior documented reasons). Until shown otherwise to a reasonable degree, I'd say it's pretty safe to assume he's right and work backwards from there to figure out why when evaluating one of his moves.
