what's the 411 on when he'll play again?

I was surprised he didn't play v DET. It's just a thigh bruise....
that doesn't sound bad.

We'll find out tomorrow that the medical staff looked at it again and decided to amputate. Nick will be out 2-3 weeks.

The amputation went bad. He got gangrene. They had to euthanize him.

I noticed the same ESPN article comparing N1's talent level to that of D-Wade. It's a pretty hefty comparison to be making off-handedly like that, but one that I like to hear as a Wizards fan.

He might be out for the season in that case.

Not so. They only do that to young Asians.

Yeah, I was surprised to see that as well. Of course, the same writer said that Noah should model his game after *Nowitzki*, and that light, skinny Corey Brewer should develop a post game like Carmelo "strong as an ox for SF down low" Anthony.

So, the author seems to ignore body type (and, in the case of Noah, innate motor skills) when choosing veteran role models. While I'd love Young to take it to the rack with the same abandon that Wade does, I also recognize that Young isn't nearly as well-built as Wade, and doesn't appear to have the frame to build up Wade-like muscle.

It's clear that Young's model is Kobe; given his gifts (height, above-average ups) and his weaknesses (he's not as quick as shorter combo guards), I think he's better off developing Kobe's midrange post-up game than he his trying to play exclusively like a 6'4" combo guard penetrator with a relatively weak J.

Hopefully Nick Young can be a Kobe/Wade type of player. I would be happy if he could at least be a 15 ppg game guy

I think the Kobe model is a bit too ambitious. Kobe is a big guy. Young will never have his post game or his ability to consistently finish in traffic. I think Kevin Martin and Rip Hamilton are better role models, though Young can finish at the rack better than Hamilton.

N1 is best modeled after N1. He's a unique player, got an enormous wingspan and a funky fade away release on his J. Needs to learn to finger roll maybe, get a little Ice in his game.

d'you see that move last night when he kinda cupped the ball
almost back in his forearm? Nice mid-air adjustment to end
up getting the make. Wing span is definitely one of his friends
:D

couple guys with season tix in the row behind me are really
funny about N1. When he's in the game, as soon as he touches
the ball over the midcourt line they're like "shoot it!" at the top
of their lungs. Too funny.

Just looked it up. Nick Young's performance was tied for the 4th-highest point total for all rookies age 23 or younger:

32 - Durant (in 39 minutes)
29 - Jianlian (in 43 minutes)
28 - Durant (in 37 minutes)
27 - Young (in 31 minutes)
27 - Durant (in 38 minutes)
27 - Durant (in 38 minutes)

Young's game led all rookies on a points per minute basis (minimum 25 points).

Nick has that "athletic arrogance" that says "you can't stop me." He's displayed it from the start. Nick was quoted a few weeks ago about how he looked forward to going up against his idol (Kobe). Got to be impressed by the cutzpah young Nick showed last night in a head-to-head matchup with his idol.

I've been particularly impressed by the way Nick plays in road games. Lots of players, especially rookies, fall apart on the road. Nick's too cocky to care where's he's playing or who he's playing against. I kinda like that about him.

Just throwing this comparison out there without comment. These are pace-adjusted per-40 numbers:

Code: Select all

Player        PTS  REB  AST  STL  BLK   TO eFG%  FT%  TS%
young,nick   20.0  4.4  2.4  1.2  0.2  3.4 .478 .824 .524
durant,kevin 22.4  4.6  2.5  1.1  1.1  3.3 .449 .876 .519

I feel bad for Durant. He's got so little help on that team.

Seattle has to pray they get the 1st/2nd pick in the draft. Derrick Rose, Durant, and Jeff Green can be a title contender. Heck, Lopez would also be a good pick for them.

I said before that resigning RMJ isn't a huge priority IMO. I love what Roger has done and expect he'll get a sizeable contract. With N1, we can afford to let Roger go. DS is improving his 3% as well.

It's true. Much as I like Roger and appreciate his effort this year, he's a 4th or more likely 5th guard on this team when fully healthy. 4th guards don't play much. 5ths hardly ever do.

If AD, DS, or Young are moved in the offseason, I;d love to have Roger back, but if we can't keep him it will only be because there's that much talent on the team and only so much money to go around.
