I think Larry K went too far "out on a limb" with his proclamation that Sessions would be getting more minutes.

Larry K is a douche. Just shows that you can't always judge a man by his handsome, handsome haircut.

How did Sessions look vs. the Bulls (3/29/08)? I checked the box score, and he put up a Mark Jackson like 4pts/5ast/2rbs/0to in 15 minutes. Read the game log and noticed he put up one bad shot, but the next page said something about the Bucks scoring on the fastbreak! Can anybody give me the lowdown?

I thought he looked good....the key thing was a play on a break where Sessions dished a bounce pass to CV for a dunk. Mo would never have given up the ball....he would have tried to score by himself.

It was one of those philosophical defining "point guard" moments....Kidd would have made that pass.....Steve Francis would have not.

i don't understand this, i've seen mo make a pass on a fast break countless times. where does this come from?

I've seen plenty of times where Mo is coming on the break as a bulldog....he's taking it in and he's scoring.

The play in question was one where the PG (Sessions) was actually out in front of CV. Sessions would have had a contested shot, but probably would have made it. It's rare that I've seen Mo give it up to the trailer. I've seen him give it up to a guy in front or equal sometimes, but not the trailer.

Great PG's love to make that trailer play.

Now, Mo-Nation might say "What difference does it make whether Mo scores or CV scores...2 points is 2 points" I'd go back to what Bill Simmons said on Homer's show two weeks ago.....he didn't think Mo was a particularly fun guy to play with. That goes to the heart of what 18 million guys who have left here have said. Mo and Redd aren't fun guys to play with.

You're talking about Mo Williams, right? Not Mo Cheeks?

What I usually see Williams do is either:

A: Stop and pop from mid-range

B: Attempt to score a layup, and if that gets shut down he curls back out to the perimeter and waits for everyone to join him.

C: Dribble the ball off of his foot.

Great shooter though.

It pertains to what Steve Nash discussed on the Charlie Rose show. He's concerned about the best basketball play, but he's also concerned with the psychology of his teammates. If one of them is in a funk and he has an opportunity to get them a bucket, that could override some other shot which is otherwise higher percentage.

Mo on the other hand first checks to see if he can score, and if not, whether there is someone to pass to. He will never pass up an open shot of his own.

From a numbers perspective Mo is not wrong. But at the end of the year how do his teammates feel about it?

The point he's trying to make is that Mo rarely makes his teamates better, he is a shoot first pg.

This is an excellent point Adam. Both Mo and Mike seem like they lose confidence pretty quickly in teammates. On the one hand it's tough to blame them given how poorly many of the other guys have played, but on the other hand it's also not a great endorsement of their leadership abilities.

Yi is an interesting example...how many times does he look to get post position only to have his teammates utterly ignore him? Now, you can make a very good argument that Yi shouldn't be getting post touches in the first place, but either the coaches tell him to post or he does it himself. And then Mo/Redd ignore him because they don't think he can score. I wish the coaches would do something, whether it's telling Yi not to even bother or telling guys to occasionally give him the ball down there. Because having him try to establish position when he's never going to get the ball is pointless.

Sessions is the one guy who does seem willing to give Yi the ball down low...maybe that's just naivete, maybe it's rookies sticking together, or maybe it's Sessions knowing that the big man needs some love :)

The funny thing about Mo and Redd is that now both guys are clearly in a position where they can make their teammates better.

Both guys are set for life with the six-year big money contracts....neither guy should feel like he has to "get 25" that night to get a contract. Both should have no problems helping a guy like Yi get some open looks.

I still think of a classic quote from Adamcz in a gamethread once and that I use occasionally...

"When you run the break with Mo Williams, you are the decoy.

Unselfish play is always fun to watch to bad our team can't figure that out let alone our owner. I would not care if we had the same record if we played games that were fun to watch

I just looked at the PopcornMachine.net game flow for that Bulls game, and noticed Yi was playing center with Villanueva at power forward, in the 4th quarter. That's an interesting lineup, with a lot of scoring possibilities. I'd like to see more of it.

I like Ivey, but he needs to be backing up Redd only. Williams needs to go down with a bruised pinky or some such vague affliction in the coming days. Sessions needs all the time he can get.

Ok, the last thing I'll post regarding that game, is some quotes from Larry Krystkowiak:

"In the fourth quarter we put in a group of guys who wanted to compete," Krystkowiak said. "They weren't thinking a whole lot. I thought Ramon Sessions gave us a nice lift at the point guard. He does a really good job of keeping his man in front of us.

"In the first half, the point of attack just killed us. We couldn't keep people out of the lane, and we were getting beat so quickly it was virtually impossible for our help to even get there. In the second half, as it usually goes, you start scoring some points and making it a little bit closer, and we got energized. We almost made enough plays."

"For the most part, it was a nice finish," Krystkowiak said. "It's just unfortunate that we have to wait so late. Just come out and fight with the same sense of urgency that group had, where it's going to be a little bit of an alley fight. Sometimes it's just a little bit too artistic and not nasty enough."

"If you're getting beat with one-dribble moves, direct-line penetration, you can't get there in time," Krystkowiak said. "I really think it's the initial blast, whether it's physical ability or mind-set that we're going to keep people out of the paint. How about if we put it on ourselves a little bit more, one-on-one basketball like the good old playground days. And let's not rely on help (defense) as much."

Now, he is starting to get it. I fear that it is too late. Unless Herb hires a GM only this year, and lets Larry K hang as a lame duck.

But yes, I've (we've) been saying this all year. Defend the point of attack. Man to Man defense makes the individual responsible. No gimmicks.

Ramon makes us nasty. Ramon can guard the point of attack. Ramon can make the fastbreak, entry, and timing passes.

If LK actually knew what he was doing he'd start sessions the rest of the season...
