The primary reason that Monta has so many driving lanes is that he's faster and quicker than most everbody. More rebounders means more rebounds, which means more fast breaks. The fact that he has to rebound so much (because of small ball which requires guards to get high #s of rebounds to be successful) probably keeps him from getting out on the break even faster. Let me ask you a question wise guy: do you know how many of Monta's drives to the basket take place during the Warriors half court game? Answer: he IS the Warriors half court game.

I have seen M8E slice through 3 and 4 defenders that were hanging around the lane for lay ups. He doesn't need much room to operate.

Co-sign, except for the wise guy snipe. The OP was asking a perfectly fine question.

I wasnt being "wise", just curious. Ive been watching Monta since 9th grade so I know all about him and dont question his talent. I just wanted to know that if you add more size and more bigs in the paint would that hurt his game?

Good luck in the playoffs

I think its just an exaggerated claim... this whole "clearing the paint" thing is a BoogeyMan created by Nelson and the blind Nellie lovers...

So we put Wright and Biedrins in there... Biedrins in a low post game, Wright and Tay as the midrange/inside guys, and then Baron/Jax as our main perimeter guys who can drive also. So they clog the lane? Jax and Baron from the perimeter, Monta can get his midrange when he wants it. They close out? Give it inside for a quick 1 on 1 w/Wright or Biedrins. They are quick enough to get a shot off before help arrives.

Smallball is a great change of pace... its a horrible go to move. In any other sport a team that relies on a gimmick like this is laughable... in the NBA you have to wait for the playoffs for that to ring true.

But short answer king - no, it would and should not affect the inside play. Monta's midrange efficiency is 10x more important to spreading our offense than who's playing PF/C.

My apologies. I thought you were attributing "small ball" to all of Monta's success. I actually think it might improve his game as far as getting out on the fast break as a result of less offensive rebounds by the opposition and less of a need for him to have to get defensive rebounds and break out even quicker (if that's possible). You've seen him since 9? What do you think in terms of how he's panned out so far? Did you think he could be this good? Do you think he can be better?

I don't know if Monta Ellis can't hit a jumper anymore, but if I'm the rest of the league, I'm praying for his stroke to stay in hibernation, because the guy is freakin' unguardable when his 15-17 foot game is working. Seriously, did some dude really ask what he does better than most players? What about the fact that he's 3rd in the NBA for FG% among guards? How about averaging 24 PPG during the last 2 months while shooting virtually zero treys? He's lightning to Baron's thunder. On a team full of chuckers, Monta attacks the basket. There isn't a defensive player in the league who can keep him in front of them (maybe Bruce Bowen, because he populates a dimension where fouls not only aren't enforced, but do not exist). Did I mention he's only 22 years old? Monta is going to be a premier scorer in the league for the next decade plus. I'm going to be very, very upset if the W's don't lock him up with a long term deal and I have to watch him come back and torch us a few times a year.

Oh yeah. I bet he'll eventually figure out how to use his uber-quickness to defend more effectively. Time is on his side, after all.
