Complete rebuild based courtesy of pointguard01

As usual, PG01 and I think alike again. I love this and even more of a reason to make the playoffs this year.

BTW, this also goes in line of what DDansby was saying on another thread.

Pointguard01 wrote:Just make it simple.

1. Terry + Stackhouse to Cleveland for Szczerbiak + Damon Jones
2. Marion + Blount + 2008 Lottery Pick for Nowitzki + Dampier

G- Jason Kidd l Damon Jones
G- Wally Szczerbiak l Eddie Jones
F- Josh Howard l Antoine Wright
F- Shawn Marion l Brandon Bass
C- Mark Blount l Malik Allen

Kidd, D.Jones, Szczberiak, E.Jones, Wright, Marion, Bass, and Allen all would come off the books next offseason.

All Dallas would have is Howard and Blount, which only total about 17 million.

Dallas would get a top 3 pick from Miami and this team would definately have another top 5 pick in the 2009 draft (BTW, I would only want Dalals to rebuild if we made the playoffs this season so New Jersey could get our pick at #19-#23 range and we could have our 2009 one).

So heading into the 2009-2010 season, Dallas would have two top 5 talents from the past two years drafts and an offseason full of money to spend on players. If we drafted well and could get one solid signing in the 2009 FA market, out team's future might be nice.

However, Rebuilding would be nice to have a young stud and picks. Oh wait we had that with Devin Harris, but we decided to trade him and picks, along with out young center in Diop for Kidd.

I would also try to leave off the Dampier/Bount trade and then swing Dampier + Howard for Maggette + Kamen OR send Blount + Howard for Maggette + Kamen. Or replace Maggette with Mobley + the Clipper 1st.

I'm in agreement as well. I like this team that is assembled. I am a huge Wally World fan! Shawn Marion's game is highly underrated.
If we could just close games with Luka, Kyrie, Green, Maxi, and Wood that'd be great...

No thanks. I'm not in that much of a hurry to return to the 90s, which is all you'd be accomplishing.

the last line is the telling argument though, we had a young stud in harris. The main problem I see with it is even though its only one year, we still have Kidd, how cancerous will he be on a rebuilding team. Also, the 2010 pick will go to NJ and with this team, that would be a very high pick.

It depends on what lottery pick Miami ended up getting... If it was certain that we would be getting Beasley then I would do the deal, but if not then I would hesitate. Also, the Cleveland trade might be the worst trade ever proposed... And on a side note, do you honestly think Miami would even want to have Wade and Nowitzki on the same team?

All I know, is it's time for a change. We need a new coach and we really need to examine if we want to keep Kidd. If we try to trade after the season, his value will be lower than ever. So, we have no choice but to keep him and try to add players that work with him. Wally world, Marion, and Blount are players I can see working here. Why not re-sign Diop? He may want to return. If Avery is gone, I could see him returning.

I wouldnt trade Dirk for a chance to get a first pick personally, Marion would just be an expiring. What about this:

Dirk + JHo for Oden + Lafrentz (exp) + Miles (retire)

Portland then trades Outlaw to Toronto for Ford or better Calderon and theyre set.
I know its unrealistic but when youre going to trade Dirk, get the best value thats out there by adding more talent because the team is done anyways by trading Dirk.

Let me say that I only made those trades in response to another posters trade in a "Dallas rebuild mode" thread. He was having Dallas take on a bunch of avergae players that had 2-3 years left on their contracts and would have completely made up "average" and stuck inbetween being bad and being really good. So I made my proposal rebuild, which was to "as I said" make it simple. Get rid of all the players who have long term contracts. Bring in as many expiring contracts as you can, and get as many top picks as you can. I asscomplshed that in the trade.

Would I want Dallas to make these trades? I dont know. I think there are benefits from both sides, just depends on where you see his team heading. I still think that Dallas can make it work with this current team we have and making some MUCH NEEDED improvements, but I question whether our front office rezognizes these and will be able to do something about it.

This current mix is not working. I think a coaching change would need to be made also.

As the Cat man said, "GET 'ER DONE!!"

Couldn't agree anymore. Could we change owners while we are at it?

You know, that's your opinion. We will NEVER win a title as long as Cuban is owner and Stern is commissioner. I want the Mavs to win a title.

David Stern is not the reason the Mavs lose. Stern has to much to lose to rig games because of personal differences.

If Jerry Jones can win multiple championships, Cuban should be able to win one.

I think Rose will be better than Beasely, id start with something like this:

Hire: Mike K or Roy Williams
Dal Gets: Chris Bosh, Rights to Derrick Rose
Mia Gets: Dirk
Tor Gets: Marion, Josh Howard, Bass

Then id trade kidd, terry and stack to round up the roster. Of course this is if we make the playoffs, that way we still have our lottery pick next year

Rose
Trade Bait
Trade Bait
Bosh
Damp

Those are two guys I wouldnt midn building around, not to mention 2009's pick.

I still say we don't win a title as long as Cuban is owner and Stern is commissioner. Stern can't allow himself to hand the trophy to Cuban.
