Ira Newble signed for the rest of the season

Post#1 » by Tommy Trojan » Mon Mar 31, 2008 8:59 pm

Today his 10 day contract is over, now do we sign him to a new 10 day contract until the boys come back? I don't see how we can sign him until the rest of the season when we know for a fact that Gasol and Bynum are to be back any time now. And maybe we can get Ariza back for the playoff run.

http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-lak ... 0059.story

The Lakers will decide today whether to sign forward Ira Newble to another 10-day contract.

The defense-minded forward had not played any games for the Lakers, although "he was the star of our practice [Saturday]," Jackson said.

"Of course, he's got the most energy. He and Coby Karl haven't played a lot the last [six] games. He's starting to feel his way through this and starting to feel comfortable."

Newble would be eligible for playoffs if the Lakers decided to sign him for the rest of the season after his second 10-day contract expired.

If we have an extra roster spot I say keep him just in case. He's experienced and I just don't trust Luke or Vlad that much.

why not sign him. I mean, I hope Ariza comes back and he doesn't play, but why not sign him. He's insurance.

Keep him.
He is a good perimeter defender which is a weak spot for the Lakers.
I'd love to see him in some games.

Keep him as insurance.

i'd say figure out exactly whats going to happen with Fishers foot because we might need to sign up a veteran back up point guard...

Thats how I see it also. If Fish goes down, we need another PG for sure

From LA Times

Defense-minded forward Ira Newble was signed for the rest of the season for about $110,000. Newble, 33, who has two points in four minutes of game action with the Lakers, is eligible for the playoffs. The Lakers picked Newble up after Seattle waived him in February. . . .. [Correction]

Keep him, no doubt. Not doing so would be extremely stupid, in my opinion.

Paul Pierce is one player in the league that we simply do not have an answer for

Cool, hopefully we can see him play now.

It has nothing to do with not playing him. We should absolutely resign him. He is cheap and he is insurance.

He wasnt signed for any other reason.

We shouldnt be alarmed that he is not getting PT now.. and we should be fortunate if we need him when its all said and done.
Cheers. — Mags

Kupchak: naaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhh.... April Fools, your last day as a Laker is today

Of course you sign the defensive wing. We don't have a reliable defensive sf so how can this be a question. All he has to do to make it worth it is come in and stop 1 guy in 1 game even for 5 minutes in the 4th and if it helps us win the series it's worth it.
As for a backup pg I can't think of any that would be worth it and that would play. I believe Farmar and Sasha can handle it if Fisher's not around for some reason.

Ira Newble has been signed for the rest of the season, and Coby Karl could see the D-League again

Even though he didnt play much during his 10 day contract, he is our insurance for ariza. We need that defender out there on the wing, someone to play a man for 5-10 mins just to knock them off balance. Good sign by us and it sure does help us for the playoffs. As far as the limit, i believe its 13, so we have to let two sit and i am assuming its going to be Coby and Mihm. imo.

Wow he gets $110,000 for ten games. That's more than what a lot of lawyers make for a year.
