Jazz road woes are overrated

Post#1 » by Sloanfeld » Mon Mar 31, 2008 7:29 pm

October/November: 5-4
December: 1-9
January: 2-2
February: 4-4
March: 4-3

Not a losing record other than the horrible December. They've lost @ Charlotte, Atlanta, New York, New Jersey, Chicago, Miami, LA Clippers, Minnesota (twice). That's too many losses to bad teams, but we did manage to win twice in Seattle.

On the other hand, we've won and have NOT lost @ Golden State, Orlando, Detroit, Boston, Houston, and are 1-1 in Phoenix and Denver.

The Jazz seem to play down to their level of competition on the road and the defense and energy isn't quite the same. People like Gomes, C. Brewer, Thornton, Magette, etc. are getting to the basket fairly easily. I'm not saying we are a great road team, and I'm not making excuses, but I'm not exactly worried for this team in the playoffs since they do show up against good teams on the road. When the media says that the Jazz won't do much in the playoffs because of their poor road record, that's unrealistic because we are nearly unbeatable at home and it won't be that hard to win 1 or even 2 out of 4 road games.

I think the Jazz have the potential to win the West (unless they draw Phoenix in the first round).

I would have to agree, the season is long and playing crap teams will not make your heart race for sure. There is a reason why nobody wants to play the jazz in the playoffs, they have an amazing home court and are a tough nosed team, but if they were in a differant division i think we could fairly assess them, but right now they are a huge question mark when it comes to the road, they havent had to struggle much for a playoff spot with Denver, Portland, Seattle , and Minnesota, which in my opinion makes them very dangerous team and a big question mark, only two teams wouldnt mind facing the jazz and its LA, and the Spurs the rest would rather not.

I would say as long as it isn't the Spurs. They are really the only team that gives the Jazz a lot trouble.

They shouldn't be this bad of a road team though.

I think you got it backwards. We beat the Shaq Suns in Phoenix already. Jazz are 5-2 over the Suns the last two seasons, including 3-1 in Phoenix. And if you're going to mention that Steve Nash sat out any games then be sure to mention the one that Boozer sat out when we still won in the desert. I think Phoenix will be a little better for the playoffs with Shaq, but that series easily goes 6-7 games with Utah.

Having watched both teams recently, and having absolutely no bias towards either, I'm confident the Suns take that series in 6. The Shaq - Amare tandem is really starting to blossom, I think they'd be far too much for the Jazz.

The last time the Jazz won in SA, well Britney was innocent, gas was around a dollar, a 20 ounce coke cost 75 cents, a stamp cost 33 cents...

Shaq can't struggle an injured Nenad Krstic who is just starting to round back into form... How the hell is he going to guard Memo if Memo is just chilling out at the three-point arc all game dropping 3's like it's hot?

Where is everyone getting the idea that Phoenix is Utah's kryptonite? Like others have said we've played them well the past couple of years. I can't really call the road woes overrated because of the teams we lose to on the road and the discrepancy between our home record and road record indicates we should probably have a better record, but somehow we find ways to blow these road games. While it makes for a frustrating regular season we have a better record on the road against playoff teams than we do lottery teams, so at least we come more ready to play against the teams we'll actually see in the post-season. I like our chances in a series against any team but LA and SAS. Even if we somehow make it to the Finals we've played very well against the 2 main favorites to come out of the East, especially Detroit.

Jazz just don't get themselves up for the bad teams in the league.

Same thing happened at the end of last year losing games at Portland and such.

Jazz play to the level of their competition, especially on the road. It might be more telling that if the Jazz had beaten Miami, Indiana, Minnesota, New York, Atlanta or the Clippers on the road any four times they would have easily been leading the Western Conference right now, then the fact that they aren't beating these teams.

Jazz will be fine come playoff time.

You can say that about every team....

It is useless logic...

That is pretty true, but the Jazz do have a 26-14 record against +.500 teams, and you can't say that about every team. I believe they will be tied with Boston for the best record in that regard if they beat the Wizards tonight.

I sure hope you're kidding...

Anyways, thank you sloanfeld for posting this. I've been preaching this to everyone, but they won't listen. If we were playing teams like Sacramento and Minnesota in the Playoffs we'd be screwed, but we're really in a pretty good position to take the west.

This is one of the most ignorant comments I've read at this site in quite a while... and that's saying something.

Don't be stupid....Brit wasnt born, gas was was around a nickel, and a coke only came in class bottles, and I think all you had to do to mail a letter was pay for the hay for the pony.

Whats this BS of people saying jazz are good as long as they don't meet phx in this first? I'd rather get a couple other teams but there is no reason to think we can't beat phx. We match up very well with them, and have been able to beat them easier than any team in the playoffs other than the hornets.
