Pat Riley's the guy that's being disrespectful here, not Pierce. Like sully said, Stern's full of shi'ite if he doesn't punish them for this crap. This is tanking to the nth degree.

When we were "tanking" we had ESPN trashing our team (and ONLY our team) every friggin' day on virtually every program (ATH, PTI, then-Cold Pizza, even Outside the Lines!). Nice double-standard from the usual tools.

To clarify first it really isn't that a big a deal. Not something that sours on me on Paul but something that lacked a certain amount of tact. Of course Miami is tanking and of course they are playing a ragtag group of players. I have no problem with calling out Miami as an organization. But the individual players particularly if they have previously played in the d-league are trying to establish themselves in the league and carve out a space for themselves in the league. I just have to concede that for a superstar of Paul Pierce's calibre it lacked a certain amount of tack to call out young and struggling as "d-leaguers" even if it is in fact true.

Not only because we were in a similar position not too long ago when we had Allan Ray instead of Ray Allen. Just that as Celtics I expect our players to act in a classier manner than a player on any of the other teams in the league without our tradition. And on the whole Paul Pierce has been one of the classier stars in the league. And so has Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen as well. Which will make our championship (knock on wood) all that much more fulfilling.

Nothing I want to go out of my way to condemn Paul for. But something I wish he hadn't said.

You only see it that way because you feel "d-leaguer" is some kind of collosal insult. It isn't. PP was stating the truth and it didn't lack any "tact."
It's like commenting on a movie cast and saying they were a bunch of "SNL" guys. This is only an insult if you don't like SNL guys.
