Nice read. I didn't know the NBA was exempt from antitrust laws. That explains a lot of the things the union has done over the years, how it's so easy for them to make demands for stadiums, etc.

But the NBA and all other professional sports in America lost any connection to capitalism a long time ago

The complete exemption from anti-trust laws is astounding. I'm not familiar with the history behind this, but presumably the baseball precedent that made this possible happened a long time ago in less overtly professional times. Even tho' chunks of the legislation are probably irrelevant to sports leagues, there's enough there that the only way being exempt still makes sense is if it's chalked down to being an anachronism.

Haven't been keeping abreast with the Seattle situation so was also unaware of the suit being brought by city. Will be interesting to see how this plays out. The other major league sports must be watching very closely.
