The official Willie Green must go thread
Willie Green is bringing the team down. We will never be successful if Mo continues to start him. He has been shooting us out of games recently. He would not be starting for any other team in the NBA. Mo needs to start Thad and not Willie because Willie has no real value or future on this team. Thad is our future and deserves to start every game

Now I know I am going to catch some grief for this comment because of the anti-Willie feeling in the forum, but I disagree that he does not have a role on this team. Right now he is just playing out of the role that I see he fits.
I do agree with everyone that he is playing awfully and doing nothing to help us right now. His shooting has been atrocious as well as his selection. Most of the shots he has taken are long jump shots that are contested or out of his range at this point. Willie needs to stop taking the contested shot and pass to another opiton and also needs to try to get to the hoop or from within 15 feet.
Now in regards to where I see him fitting into the team it is by no means as a starter. Willie is not well suited to be a starter on any team. He is too sporadic to be a starter. It just so happens that at the start of the season he was our best option to start by default. I believe that if Willie were a sub coming off the bench it would be a better fit for our team. There was just no chance that the emergence of Thad halfway through the season was going to knock him out of the lineup. Next season, it is almost cetain Willie will be used as a sub. Most likely Thad would be our 3 and Iggy our 2. The possibility is even higher if we pick up a legit PF too. If this is what happens I think we have a nice bench with Lou Will as the backup PG, Willie backing up the 2, Carney backing up the 3, Evans (if we got a legit PF) backing up the 4 and Smith and hopefully another person backing up the C position.

This year, Willie has a role. Should Stefanski bring in a starting PF (doesn't have to be an all-star but just a starting caliber PF), we will see Iguodala and Young shift to SG and SF respectively. If that shift does happen, I think either Green or Carney need to be sent packing since there isn't room for both. In all honesty, I wouldn't be devastated if Carney were moved and Green were kept but I would prefer to see Green go play elsewhere.

all he need is his Not-suck tonic and then he turn into his alter-ego Willay Green or better know as Sharpshotin' Willay Green. and then he will take us to the CHIP becasue he's a true number one like Brandon Roy becuase he can do stuff like dunk in the halfcourt and shut down Lebron.

Now I know that over the past 6 games, Willie's shooting percentage has been brutal, but I guess that I was under the impression that - for at least the first 10-15 games of our post-February 5th run, Willie's overall game was pretty solid...and even before that, going back to the beginning of the year, his shooting percentage and overall play was pretty decent.
As of right now, his shooting percentage is just a tad under 44% - still by far a career high. Before this six game stretch, he was shooting almost 46% from the field (over 60 games...not a small sample at all) - which I would think is average to above average for a shooting guard.
Don't get me wrong - I am not campaiging for the presidency of the Willie Green Fan Club...I just want to make sure that we don't let the last 6 games define the man's season - that's all.

Well I think the last 6 games define his career. Inconsistent. You can't have such an one-dimensional, inconsistent player starting for you and getting big minutes because when his strength isn't going for him, he can do nothing but bring you down.
I've lost all hope in him not starting, so at the very least his minutes need to come down, especially when his shot isn't dropping early. I don't feel comfortable relying on him for big minutes.

He's also having a career season. He deserved those minutes. He won the job outright in training camp.
Sometimes players goes through slumps. Cheeks has been fantastic getting young players to play over their heads. Jerking Green in and out of the lineup won't help his confidence. Once you take away a player's confidence, he's done.
As long as he isn't losing us games, I see no problem with Cheeks letting him play through his slump.
