Augustin is going to really benefit from having NBA teammates. I know height will be an issue, but he was taking Memphis's tall athletic guys off the dribble pretty much will (although he wasn't finishing like he did all season). If NBA defenses sag off him he has the ability to really punish them with the jumper. I think of him as a natural point guard with tremendous scoring ability.
No question he will have problems guarding bigger points. No way to get around that issue. He plays in a midget backcourt in Texas and that really hurt them vs Memphis. But even though he's small, Augustin shows a willingness to get up and the opposing guard's grill and really hound the ball. Maybe Mo did the same thing at Alabama, but he certainly doesn't do it in the league. How Augustin's defense will translate is a big question mark.
I look at Collision's skill set and don't see a guy with the ability to carry his team if he didn't have the kind of teammates he's had at UCLA. That said, I think he could be a nice player in the right situation. A rich man's Jacque Vaughn.

Mo came into the league with the rep as a weak defender. With regard to Augustin I agree with everything you wrote. His lack of size will be an issue but on the plus side he's a good shooter and he's terrific at getting to the rim and finishing. I posted awhile back that he reminds me of Tony Parker in that regard but it took Parker a few seasons to get to that level. Augustin is already there. Plus, he has a natural leadership quality that really resonates on the court. I think he's going to be a fine player in this league and he has the talent to be a very good PG. I would not have any problems at all with the Bucks drafting him.

Yea, that's what I've seen. I didn't see Mo play much his rookie season but when the Bucks signed him I did as much research as possible to find out about him and one of the constants I heard was that he was a weak defender. Obviously that's been the case with the Bucks.

It has us taking that Gallinari guy,NBA Comparison: Detlef Schrempf
Strengths: Very good athlete. PG skills in a 6-8 forward body, can play all the back-court spots. Has great fundamentals for his age, drives well and know how to create his own shot or pass the ball. Offensively he can do almost everything at the best level possible for a 16 year old. Great 3p shot, has shooting range of more than 24 feet and likes to show it off. Even if Gallinari seems a streak shooter sometimes, he is definitely a true shooter who doesn't miss twice if left open and is able to shoot even from the dribble. His ball-handling is very strong for a man of his height. He can drive to the basket from left and right with a good first step and often tryes finishing with a dunk in traffic. Plays decently in the low post. Above average rebounder for the role. Good ball-hawk thanks to his quick hands. Reads the defense well so he's able to receive a lot of fouls and go to the FT line many times per game. Plays with intensity and heart. Natural born talent with intriguing upside: at 6-8 probably hasn't finished growing (has long legs not proportioned to the rest of body).
Weaknesses: Last year doctors stopped him from playing for 3 months due to a growth problem. Now he seems ok but has to improve physically and then add muscles to his body. Sometimes struggles with his shot selection and has the tendency to rely on his 3p jumper too much. Nothing special on defense, except for steals: often has difficulty defending shorter and quicker opponents. Must become quicker with his footwork and lateral mobility. Needs to improve his decision making and develop his promising passing skills. Must become more consistent: sometimes he forgets his PG mentality and forces situations.
Notes: His rights are owned by Armani Jeans Milano. But he will be on loan to Montegranaro for 2 years.... Overall top scorer at the 2004 European Championships for cadets (U16) in Greece, he took Italy to a good 6th place (best result for 10 years in a cadet competition) by oneself. Last year got some minutes in the tough 4th Italian division, this year will play much more against older and tougher players. Next year could go to play in Italy's 1st division and be acquired by a top level team.
I'm not crazy about him, but I would need to see him play before I could further judge.
Only a note: that review about Gallinari is nearly 4 years old (october 2004).

Of guys who could fall to #7, I'm on the Joe Alexander bandwagon. Unlike almost everybody else in this draft, he has the attitude (very competitive nature, loves to mix it up) and work ethic (only been playing organized ball for 5 years now, a self made player) to match his ideal measurables (size, athleticism) and skill potential.
I say this admitting that I haven't seen the European guys play. However, everywhere else I look, I see guys that have shortcomings that they can't or won't be able to overcome.
On the one hand you have guys like Anthony Randolph and Donte Greene, who seem to have all the size, athleticism, and talent in the world but who don't play with any sort of edge, have a tendency to play selfishly, and don't seem willing to put in the work necessary to actually realize their potential.
On the other hand, you have guys like Kevin Love and Tyler Hansbrough, who have the work ethic, attitude, and consistently play the right way. Unfortunately for them, they either lack the size, athleticism, or skill of a Randolph or Greene to distinguish themselves in the NBA and become stars, or at the very least merit being chosen with a top 7 pick.

I'm going to predict that he will move up considerably during workouts and other off season rookie events and that top 10 will not be considered a reach for him anymore. I'll most likely look stupid for making this prediction. He's just my "man-crush" this year, and I really feel strongly that he's going to be a very good NBA player, if not a star.
