Derrick Rose = Perfect Baron Replacement

Post#1 » by ticknyler » Tue Apr 1, 2008 9:34 pm

The more i watch that kid, he seems to be a perfect player for our system and type to play alongside Monta because hes big enough to guard some 2G's like Baron does.

He is obviously gonna be a top 5 pick so we would need to trade up.

What would we have to give up to get that high? This years 1st, and 2 future 1st?

Baron would have to opt out to make this a possibility as well, but a future of
Rose
Monta
Belinelli
WRight
Biedrins

looks really good.

I like the idea of keeping that Jack cat for another half decade .

Bustinellie playing the 3 ?

Rose-Monta would be off the charts good...Maybe we miss the playoffs and end up picking 1st or 2nd.

Jrue Holiday is the perfect fit with Monta...Let's wait till the o9 draft to make our move...This kid is big-unselfish-athleticly gifted-oozzing with natural feel..Can play PG but is perfect as a 2 gaurd next to M8.

Ya well Jackson would be there for 3-4 years im sure. You would have to take Rose ahead of Mayo in my opinion

why lets trade Boomdizzle to the Clippz if and only if we can get Rose,

Maybe a sign and trade somehow getting us The Clippz pick with us sending Boomdizzle there way.

Baron for Brand swap. With us somehow swaping picks also.

Rose
Monta
Brand

I don't see how. Rose is a good point gaurd while mayo is a combo gaurd that hasnt perfected the skills of a point gaurd and isnt a killer shooting gaurd.

i would actually like it if we got rid of baron for rose as much as i like baron. rose is younger, more athletic, and bleeding potential. if we can't move up that far, i'll be extremely happy to move up and get mayo. he's been making nba moves since high school. there is a reason he was the number 1 recruit before the season.

Felipe Lopez was the #1 recruit ...How did that work out?

Mayo's a pud.

Yi was prized recruit coming out of China..How's that working out for the Bucks?

Jianlain is a pud.

Mayo is overrated and couldn't even get his team out of the first round.

Nothing absurd about that. Rose is working with a lot more at Memphis then Mayo had at USC.

I dont know if everyone does...Seems like I'm the only 1 here in love with the idea of Love on the warriors...Why do I want him? I like tough guys who are great passers...I love the Love kid...Have you seen his outlet passes? You cant actually be a hoops fan and not love Love's outlets..That's not even possible...

He's smart, he's got great touch on his shot, he gets line like crazy...He's strong as bull...He's super competitive..He blocked liked 7 shots the other day..The kid is sic....The best thing about Kevin is he doesnt look like a basketball player..That's awesome..That means a stiff like Lopez will get selected ahead of him  ..It's insane...

I'm not sure if Rose is the answer, though he's looking better everyday... Mayo is a long way from being an NBA point guard -- he's clearly just more interested in being a highlight reel player than setting up his teammates at the moment. It's not that he lacks court sense, he just needs time to put all the pieces together. When (if) he matures, he'll be a solid point guard.

But I agree with the impulse to trade Baron while he still has some trade value left. Getting Rose to replace him seems like a great move for a team like ours that has some young talent already to grow along with him.

I saw this year as a bigger test than the last to determine if we should keep this thing together. After the Mavs game tonight, it's clear that this team is unfortunately not a competitive Western Conference playoff team now or in the near future (Though teams like Phoenix and San Antonio are aging, Portland is undoubtedly going to jump into the mix and almost every other team ahead of us is just better).

Making the playoffs last year to end the years of lottery trips was nice... but I don't think we want to be a perennial 8 seed either.

Tonight Baron had 1 assist and 6 TOs. I agree with those who say it was due to fatigue.. but this was a huge game and while the Mav's injured star managed to step up, Baron failed to deliver what this team needs of him (which is an unbelievably large burden).

Nowitzki on the other hand not only managed to show up, but he even managed to grab a few offensive rebounds that are only indicative or our perpetually poor defense/rebounding...

If the team can't show up for a game like tonight we neither deserve the playoffs nor can we make any impact other than being a nice sideshow storyline.

Trading Baron for a high pick (e.g. Rose) + some talent would set us up for a future of sustainable success. We have Monta, Wright, and Biedrins who have demonstrated potential and appear to be good building blocks for the future.

Let's create a balanced roster and get a coach who can develop the team.

Good post. I totally agree. I don't see our current team ever doing much, if any, better than we are doing this season. The roster needs more than just a few tweaks. Pat Riley talked about possibly trading Miami's pick. They are in need of a point guard too. This may be a good opportunity to pick up a #1 or 2 pick and draft either Beasley or Rose. Personally though, I'd rather keep Baron and use one of, or a combination of Biedrins, Harrington, Pietrus S&T to move up in the draft.

Why would we trade Baron while he's still very good? How about we sign Brand and/or Marion for next year? We blame Baron for under-achieving, but at the same time, it's our FO's fault for not getting any quality post scorers for him.
