TJ Ford vs. Jose Calderon--who do the Raptors keep?

Because the Raptors board can never come to an agreement, I'm going to ask the general public. I don't want any Raptors fans voting or voicing an opinion. Who should the Raptors keep on board long term?

I'll give a fair pros and cons for each player:

Ford's positives:

- clutch player, especially before the injury
- great mid-range jump shot
- lightning quick, excellent passer when driving
- good contract
- confidence level is high when he knows he's the leader
- more room to grow, arguably higher ceiling for improvement

Ford's negatives:
- brittle body
- can be erratic on court/decision-making
- will not come off the bench

Calderon's positives:
- excellent shooting percentages
- great distributer
- great finisher
- plays in control
- healthy
- clutch player earlier in season

Calderon's negatives:
- play has regressed since return of Ford
- no defense
- too passive
- 9 million+ contract?

Can TJ Ford and Jose Calderon be equal to one section of a "big three"? If They match up the salaries accordingly they could equal one max-money player.

Yes. But to be frank, I think both of them want the other gone to free up minutes for themselves.

It's no question for me. I want a creator and not a distributor. Someone brought it up in a game thread where Calderon did not have good game. It was a jose fanboy; he said, " At least when Calderon plays bad, he doesn't impact the game negatively". The thing is, the opposite is also true; he never has a great impact. He's usually invisible on the court, and for a guy who was touted by many raps fans as a 9 mil type player, that's horrible. He's not the game changer TJ is. Yes TJ can make you pissed at times, but it's that same game play that makes him so unique, that makes his impact on the game that much bigger. Keep TJ, trade Jose while his value is high; speaking on terms of Chicago bulls fans, and what's a fair deal for them, what would you think is a better lineup:

Deng
Bosh
Rasho

Jose
Parker
Nocioni
Bosh
Rasho

If their value is that different, and the difference in their play is so small, you'd think the smart choice would be to trade Jose.

Calderon. No question. There's no flow to the offense with TJ on the court.

I like Calderon a lot more for the long term because every season you have a good chance of losing TJ for good.

That is why this question is complicated, if TJ didn't have the injury concern you could get a really good player/pick out of him but since he does have that risk, no one will want to give you a frontcourt stud for him.

I like them both. Think they are pretty equal but fit better on different type of teams. Calderon could get his offensive game off great I think playing alongside a great SG, and Bosh for a big 3. Getting them lots of touches, playing off the ball with his shooting, swinging the ball, and breaking down the defence once in a while. Ford I don't think would work as well with a SG that needs lots of touches, and Bosh who needs a lot of touches. He'd probably fit better on a team that needs him with the ball in his hand a lot. Dwight howard, or Tyson Chandler would probably be great fits with TJ's game.

Really I think they are about equal in terms of talent. Just different. With injuries considerd though I'de feel a lot more comfortable keeping Calderon.

Just some stuff Calderon's added to his resume this season,

Calderon shoots above 50 from the field, above 40 from three, and above 90 from the stripe, joining the likes of Miller, Dirk, Nash, and Bird as the only ever to achieve that feat. Oh, and he's only 1 of 3 ever to maintain a 5/1 assist to turnover ratio while dishing out more than 5 dimes a game.

Good luck, we have the most obnoxious, intrusive fans on these forums, there's no way a TJ vs Jose thread isn't getting mobbed (although I guess I'm being a bit of a hypocrite, since I'm posting here as well!).

His ability to run an offense, play under control, and take smart shots within a system.

Ford overdribbles the ball and often goes into MeJ mode; having an undersized point guard who tries to be your leading scorer isn't a recipe for success in the playoffs.
