Zach Randolph

Post#1 » by numbre55 » Wed Apr 2, 2008 11:36 pm

does anyone on this board think the rockets should go after Zach Randolph in the off-season? i followed zach's career in portland which he displayed outstanding offense ability. this season his stats are similar to that of lamar odem's. i wouldnt mind seeing him on the rockets bench next season.

No, no and no. If the Knicks' pick is #2 and its included in a package for expirings...still probably no.

Zach is the epitome of a player who puts up big numbers on a horrible team. Carl Landry and Luis Scola are ALREADY better players than he is, both are younger, and both are on MUCH MUCH better contracts.

In fact, I don't think we could even match salaries to take Zach without trading Yao or Tmac...that means it isn't going to happen.

no way you can compare scola or landry to randolph...

sure they are younger, but randolph can do much more right now

i would take scola and landry combined over randolph.... zach has no defensive presence what so ever.

Fine at the PF spot. We need a legit back up C though. If Yao gets injured we need someone that can step in and fill that defensive void. I think its safe to say that Deke has close to nothing left in the tank.

The only thing Randolph can bring to the team is a cancerous attitude.

1. HORRIBLE attitude
2. No hustle
3. 13 million this year (we'd have to give up significant pieces, which means a negative return rate)
4. No defense
5. His teams don't even vaguely resemble winners, there are reason no good team has gone after him
6. Our power forwards are absolutely better than he is. All factors considered, I'm happier with just Scola than I would be with Randolph
7. We already have at least 2 post presences, 4 if you count deke on defense (granted there's no telling what that situation is next year)
8. This is the most critical point, Isaiah wanted him on his team

If he was making league minimum the answer would still be NO.

Why would we want Baby Huey?

Haha what if he raised our cap by 12 million with payment of his salary retained by New York, BUT he had to play at least 25 minutes a game? :) I'm still not sure I'd sign him.

I think he gets hated too much, but he's not the type of player we really need especially considering contracts and defense.

He is very skilled on offense, true, but he's a low-post player. Which means he and Yao can't share the court, limiting Randolph to 15min/game. He does not pass out once getting the ball so Adelman would have no use for him. No matter what his salary he would be a bad fit w/Rockets so they would never consider him.

His problem with the Knicks is that he loves to settle for the midrange jumper anywhere between 15 - 20 ft, while shooting at a low percentage. On top of his frustrating offensive regime, he add nothing to defense. Sure he'll grab a good amount of boards but he plays poor man-to-man defense and can't block shots. Dude barely gets his feet off the floor.
