We really haven't played any consistent d since the Pistons game. It really looks like the effort is slipping overall.
Gil actually looked like he was trying to play defense tonight and on a few possessions, he did ok... but, that last possession showed his proclivity to ball watch.
I still don't really know why he was in there on the final possession. I believe Jordan subbed him out for defensive purposes with 15 secs left only to reinsert him with 1.1.

Agreed - it's been a good while since I remember actually being slightly impressed with how we were playing defense. I'll admit that Arenas isn't very likely to help in that regard, but I doubt he hurts us much either.

They haven't played consistently good D, but put together good efforts against Orlando and Detroit. It just seems like they don't get up for every game, which is basically immaturity.

He only came back in because Stevenson got hurt. I'd have rather of seen Mason or Young in there, but let's face it, all of our guards other than DS live in no man's land on D and Sessions would proabably have been open against all of them.
I'm still more upset with Daniels not racing to retrieve the ball that AJ threw down the court.

From the post:
"An agonizing loss does not define the season, but how the Wizards managed to give back a 10-point lead late in the fourth quarter -- moments after Arenas had checked in with five minutes left -- has got to damage the psyche."
Hmmmm... I wonder if there's a connection...

Help us, Obi-wan Leonsis. You're our only hope.

IIRC they had stopped scoring before he had actually checked in. We had like 86 points going INTO the 4th. They hit a long dry spell at the wrong time. They didn't play defense the ENTIRE game excpet for a few possessions.
They're defensive philosophy all season has been for guards to scrape down and help when the ball goes in the paint and then get back to their man. They had been doing it all night (and all year) but the Bucks weren't hitting shots. I don't really think u can blame Gil entirely for that.
The offense got stagnant at a bad time and their risky defensive strategy failed them again. If they would have of displayed the same urgency during the whole game that they showed in the last minute of the game they would've easily won. But they seemed more concerned about getting their "flow" back, and forgot about the hustle.
They were out there playing like it was practice. Everything was real easy and real casual. I don't know what it was but I felt like something was missing the entire game. Like everyone was nervous cuz Gil was back. Like when you have a substitute teacher...and then your real teachers come back. Even during the halftime interview Caron seemed unsettled.
We got 7 games to get on track.

The crowd was unsettled. The response to Arenas coming out was much more subdued than I would have expected.

Could that have been because of the nonsensical, juvenile way they did it? I made this point in another thread, but I'll say it again here... Arenas' fake Walt Frazier entrance seemed only to fire up the Bucks... and confuse everyone else.

Do you mean Willis Reed? Is it possible that since Gil was coming off the bench he wanted to get warm in the locker room/gym before getting on to the court?

I'm so sick of the Gilbertology crap. Just be a pro and play ball.

And what about a long armed AB on the in bound?

Wizards President Ernie Grunfeld said he did not think the way Arenas handled his return was disrespectful to the coaching staff.
"Gilbert was medically cleared to play, it was a game-time decision and he was going to play when he felt ready," Grunfeld said. "Maybe there was a miscommunication, but he talked with the trainer and then he stayed in the back to warm up before coming out to play."
With the Arenas-induced drama of Wednesday and a disappointing loss to the lottery-bound Bucks behind them, the Wizards must now focus on finishing the regular season as strong as possible.
"He made his grand entrance and he had his time," center Brendan Haywood said. "Now it's time to get back to business."

Yes, Willis Reed. Duh, brain fart on my part. My bad. LSBF is gettin long in the tooth and short in the memory department.
After reading some of the explanations of the entrance in the Post this morning (Eddie J. didn't know it was happening?), I stand by my assertion that this is another example of a less-than-well-oiled machine.
