It has always been mental with Tony, as doc has said, since he has been here, i think even the casual Celtics fan could draw that conclusion

who knows if he can get over the mental blocks, i guess he did get over them for those 18 games last January, who knows if he can get back to that level, i hope for the Celtics sake that he can get back there

I just wonder what this team would be like if he never blew out his knee, the defense would be THAT much better

I get this feeling that TA is about to bust loose and tear up the league again at any moment now. He's got to. He's too good not to. And the timing couldn't be better. He's going to be a huge factor for us in the playoffs.

The big change for Tony this year that is positive is his dishes down low. He never did that in previous seasons and it adds a dimension to his game on the penetration. This requires the weakside guy to be moving and sadly that rarely happens when he drives.

Who taught him to shoot off his shoulder?

I've sadly just about given up on poor Tony. And there weren't too many bigger supporters than me thru all the troubles. :nonono:

The only hope for Tony is for him to go back on his salmon and mashed potatoes diet!

There's no doubt that Tony is his own worst enemy. His inability to stay focused really hurts his game. His inconsistency is frustrating- one minute he's playing like a borderline all star, and the next minute he's making a mistake that would be expected of a JV high school player. I think he's got a bad case of ADD or something, because it's his mental mistakes that are killing him. He's definitely a gifted individual in terms of his athleticism, but he needs to get his head right before he can thrive.

That's probably the same thing that keeps Tony frustrated. Imagine knowing that you have it in you, to be one of the best players on the floor, and then making JV mistakes. You would probably be wondering, what the hell is wrong with you too. It's a chicken and the egg problem, does Tony play bad, because he knows he's playing bad, or does Tony play bad, and then know that he's playing bad? He's had stretches this year where he just explodes for points in a flurry, I think one game he scored 9 or 10 straight for us. He's a pretty unstoppable player off the dribble because of his strength. The only thing that seems to be able to stop him is the bobbles.

It's probably good for Ray to work with him on his shooting, because it will open up things more for him, but we don't we TA turning into a jumpshooter.

Ya, I am guessing Tony wasn't recommended by our Brain Doctor when we drafted him. Oh if Tony only had Scal's brain he would be an all star! LOL.

the moment I bury Tony he will have a big game so I'm going to bury him and maybe he will have a big game and get backon track. He is 1 for 12 in his last 2 games with a bunch of personal fouls and some turnovers. Against Chicago he had 3 fouls in about 3 minutes and DOc's plan to give him big minutes went up in smoke. He seems even more clueless on offense than he did as a rookie, HIs confidence is completely shot and he spends most of his time on the court hanging his head and talking to himself. How long are Doc, the coaches and his teammates supposed to stand by this guy, encourage him and continue to give him opportunities to deliver when he keeps screwing up? Privately I would bet that Doc, Danny and even his teammates have written him off. He is by far the dumbest player on this team. he makes the same mistakes over and over. He fouls guys taking 3's, taking last shots, on break aways you name it. He hangs his head whenever he makes a bad play and then he usually makes an even worse play right after that. he doesn't know when to lay it in or when to dunk. He's been in the league 4 years and he makes the same mistakes he did as a rookie. He is horrendous from the 3point line yet Doc plays him as s shooting guard! Earth to Doc- Tony Allen CAN"T SHOOT!He shot 2 airballs for 3's last night/ How do you not even hit some part of the basket on a shot attempt- twice in the same game? he has 7 games ( plus the playoffs) to show that he belongs on this team. If he doesn't he's gone.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Celtics let TA walk after this season. They could easily draft a SG/SF replacement at a fraction of the cost instead of paying TA $3-4 million/year.

Remember this is a new time for the Celtics as far as salary cap management. TA has not earned a 3-4 year deal. IMO.

TA is ours and for very cheap. I don't know what is going on in his head, but it doesn't seem like he has gotten it straightened out.

The Celtics have stood by him and given him a chance. It would have been nice. Maybe over the summer he'll be able to rebuild his confidence.

Certainly, DA can draft a replacement at 30.

Maybe TA can come back. We won't have to pay much for him that's for sure. Man I loved watching him take over a game defensively. He and Rondo could have been mega-disruptors.

I don't think this is the end of it. He still has time, but it looks like his role wil be limited. I think we should rest him. Give his knee a couple weeks off.

He is a restricted free agent, if some team offers him $3-4 mill for 3 years then I believe he is gone. Ainge can draft a SG/SF at $950,000 per year. The only way I see TA coming back is if he accepts a deal like Eddie House, 1 year @ $1.5-2.5 million.

The Celtics have Gabe Pruitt and can draft a guy like Courtney Lee, Sam Young or Tyler Smith to make up for TA's 15 minutes a game at 1/3 of the salary. Tony Allen won't be getting a payday with the Celtics.

No he won't, but at least for the remainder of this season/postseason, we have him and he's ours, so we need him to shake it off and produce!
It's still 17 to 11!!!!

17:

No one is going to offer him a contract. Did you see him hobbling last night?

He's ours for the minimum if we want him.

I agree...

I'd keep him around for the minimum....but thats about it...His value to us is as a defender.... but his offensive shortcomings sometimes make him more of a burden than a help.....

Hopefully as he gets stronger, older and wiser, the pluses will outway the negatives.... but for now, his value is low....pay him what he is worth....and no more...
