I'm not completely sold on Doc decision making in tight games, and definitely not expecting to out coach someone like Popovich in a 7 game series.

Me too, but luckily coaches mean less in basketball then they do in other sports.

E.g., in most potential matchups for most series, the opposing coach will be a lot more experienced in coaching the playoffs and making adjustments than Doc Rivers is. That's grounds for worry right there.

If Greg Popovich (and Phil Jackson for that matter) are so superior why couldn't they outcoach Doc in the regular season?

Doc hasn't been outcoached in the playoffs; he's been outgunned. Coaches with inferior talent always look like they're making bad decisions. It's just the nature of the game.

Take away Duncan and does Popovich become stupid? No. But he no longer wins, and he looks bad.

Now that he has the talent, Doc's performing like the best coach in the league.

Good point, Gant.

However, the Doc haters will never give the guy credit no matter what. So it's a losing battle.
It's still 17 to 11!!!!

I must fight the good fight no matter the odds.

Doc could win #17 (and who knows, maybe even #18 ) and the haters will find something to harp on. He's not perfect but he's not horrible, either. The players genuinely seem to enjoy playing for him.

the hate is sad, really :nonono: :nonono: :nonono: :nonono:

I seem to remember Doc as the coach of the Magic and being up 3-1 with T-Mac and going down to the soon to be champion Pistons.

If you guys remember the Magic was favored to win the series, I don't know if he was out gunned but he was out coached at least in that series.

Phil and Pop got their reps from winning when it counts, Doc has got to still prove it.

No one is saying to the contrary. But to say he's a bad coach because he lost to superior teams is not fair either. And T-Mac still has quite a bit to prove in the playoffs. Sometimes the players do lose games.

I didn't say Doc was a bad coach, in fact he's a damn good one. True he really never had a fun gun then as he does now, I'm just saying we'll have to see what he can do with it.

This is a point no one seems to remember. Except for last year, when McGrady played a great game 7 but couldn't do it alone, he hasn't exactly been Mr.-Rise-To-The-Occasion in the playoffs.

The Celtics are the only team, other than the Jazz, to beat every team this year. And in most cases, if not all, the Celtics were either the best team or at least equal to their opponents.

That doesn't mean they will definitely win it all, but I don't think you can bet against them in any playoff series against anyone, especially with home court advantage. And that's pretty much all you can ask for.

I would not be suprised to see them win it all. I would also not be suprised if they lost in the 1st round either.

Well *that* WOULD surprise me. You honestly can see Atlanta beating them in a 7 GAME SERIES????

Not me.

I would be surprised if they don't sweep the first round.

The Dallas example doesn't apply. Our best players aren't chokers.

Well I know that hawks are 3 games benhind the Wizards but if the wiz dropped down to the 8th seed it would be a tough series. Plus I do have concernes about Doc as our coach in the playoffs. It really cannot be ignored that he has yet to get out of the first round of the play-offs.

The cavs scare me a little in round 2. Lebron can go off and if a few other players dump in 10 points they can give anybody in the east a run for their money.

^^After that stinker last night against Chicago, I'm not sure the Cavs scare me as much as they did a couple of weeks ago. Agreed, LeBron can take over, but the supporting cast around him is SO BAD I don't think it'll be enough. Last year his team sucked ass but who they had was better than who they have now (did anyone see Ben Wallace brick that DUNK with about 2 minutes left?????!!!?!?!?)
