Nick Young just put up 27 against the lakers. He's SO much more proven than Greg Oden. Without doubt, i would build my franchise around the proven Nick Young rather than the completely unproven, no idea if he's any good, never played an nba game so he can't possibly have any potential Greg Oden. I can't believe people would even think of him as a young building block.
An ESPN poster makes the argument for another candidate.

Would Deron Williams be so good if not for his super-frontline? I doubt it. And Dwight is better than all of them but Bron.
EDIT - How are Oden and Durant higher than Monta? Why Bynum over Tay (although Bynum has been injured? Man... BSPN is just a hype machine that doesn't know anything about what it talks about.

About 70% of realgm disagrees with you
then 70% of realgm are idiots.
(not that i think there's any truth to that claim... show me the poll in which 70% of the posters on realgm even botherred to respond to...).
no one in their right mind would take a 20 year old player who hasn't played a single nba game and had just had microfracture surgery, over a 20 year old who already has 3 years' worth of nba experience under the close watch of kareem, and has been a double double machine - dominating and showing improvement on almost a daily basis.
and please don't compare their injuries...
one has required surgery that has rutinely destroyed careers and made oden lose a whole (first) season
the other required 3 months of rest and rehab...
at this point in time it's not even close.
no nba exec would take oden over bynum right now.

I don't think anyone, even Byron Scott would take Paul over Howard. Paul's game is much more advanced, but Howard's a big man with tremendous upside. He is already a superstar and his game still has a lot of room for improvement.
No one would even think of putting Deron over Dwight, no one.

60%. I was wrong.
And yes, many people in their right minds (outside of the LA fanbase) would take a 20 year old kid with more athleticism, speed, strength, speed, coordination, etc. over a kid that has only put up 13-10 for less than half of a season in his 3 year career.
Seriously, you guys talk like Bynum has achieved something...when he hasn't...at all

Thank you for all the memories BRoy. You were a class act and brought hope to an entire region for 5 years. You will be missed.

there is a poll on espns daily dime on who would you want to build you franchise around with howard vs paul and it is pretty close. 49% for howard and 51% for paul. Closer than i would expect.

I'm not surprised. Paul is currently the better player and his team is better. People are quick to jump the gun. I'd still take Howard to build around, he has a much greater upside

Yeah i'd take dwight too but it was just interesting to see it that close. I wouldn't take paul not only becuase i think dwight will be better but for the sole reason i think it is very rare and pratically impossible to construct a championship team around a point guard, especially at 6 foot, as your best player.

The answer, ESPN employs a lot of hack writers.
There's at least one expert who's prescient.

Why in the hell is Al Jefferson not there?
