The Atlanta Journal Constitution reports that John Smoltz will undergo season-ending shoulder surgery. The Braves have scheduled a Wednesday afternoon press conference. Smoltz blew a save in his return from the disabled list Monday and MLB.com reports that he woke up with pain in his shoulder Tuesday. Smoltz has said in the past that he'd retire rather than undergo another shoulder operation, but indicated Monday that he might be willing to go back under the knife to prolong his career and will be a free agent after this season. If Smoltz is indeed done for the season, Rafael Soriano and Manny Acosta will be competing for saves.
i wouldnt be suprised if he retires, and if he does.....wow what a career he had, one of the best pitchers ever right here....
