The Shaq trade fell as a lightning in clear skies, that's the biggest surprise for me, honorable mentions are Portland's streak, West competition and the Gasol trade.

The Bulls. I thought they would win the East.

I wouldn't put it as THE story of the year, but Portland was picked to be in contention for the worst record / another number 1 overall pick, but went on to win 13 in a row, and is .500 (they were over .500 until yesterday sine December) in the toughest western conference ever
Thank you for all the memories BRoy. You were a class act and brought hope to an entire region for 5 years. You will be missed.

I dont see how a team trades one of the worst players for an all-star.

Kwame for Pau gets my vote.

Hornets surprised me as well..

Myself and Hornets fans around the world have indeed been [pleasantly] surprised by where the Hornets stand at this point in the season.

#1 seed blows my mind, but the few of us around here were pretty confident going into this season that this team could make some noise if they stayed healthy.

oh, and how about that Peja guy? show of hands; how many people assumed his career was over?

8)

non-Hornets suprises:

-Houston/Portland win streaks
-All of the odd (and seemingly lopsided) trades.
-Eastern Conference futility (MIA/CHI most notably)
-No huge scandals/brawls and/or lengthy suspensions
-Hedo Turkoglu's career year

Surprise team of the year: Hornets.
Surprise accomplishment: Houston's 22-game win streak.
