Game Thread: Houston Rockets @ Seattle Supersonics

Post#1 » by Det the Threat » Fri Apr 4, 2008 4:29 pm

After losing 4 in a row, the Sonics are trying to stop the bleeding when they host Tracy McGrady and his Houston Rockets. The Rockets lost all-star center Yao Ming a couple of weeks ago, but still managed to keep on winning games and making their way to the playoffs.

The Sonics signed guard/forward Ronald Dupree to a 10 day contract.
They also send Mo Sene back to Idaho, because PJ thinks he needs to evaluate Francisco Elson during those last couple of games.

Det, nice work with the game threads this season. Although they haven't been getting much attention lately, I want you to know that your diligence is appreciated.

^Agreed. We love your effort around here Det!

BTW...the Rockets are coming off a back-to-back against the Blazers.

Anyone think we have a chance beating them since they're coming off a back to back?

And I can't believe PJ would rather evaluate Elson and send Sene back to Idaho...what a waste...that's what this seasons all about. PLAY SENE. What's his problem!?!!?!?

Check out the PJ interview posted on the TNT blog. He was talking in circles about Sene, Elson & Marshall. It came across as if he didn't really believe in the decision but was going along with the company line (I had to get at least one more tanking themed post in before the season ended. :-) )

Has PJ's first season here been anything short of an unmitigated disaster? Has he done anything good this year?

Has KD progressed? Yes, with his shot selection, but little else.

Jeff Green is completely lost out there. What's his role?

Is there any difference in Collison, Watson, Ridnour, Wilkins, Wilcox, or Gelabale this year compared to last year? No.

Is Petro's "improvement" just mirage of playing time?

What the #$*% is the deal with Mo Sene?

Lastly, what does it say about PJ that this team has played with no identity the entire season?

I challenge anybody to find something PJ has done this year or in years past to say he is a good NBA head coach.

No problem guys. I like doing that for such a good group of people like the ones on this forum.

1) I don't think we've got enough fire power to beat the Rockets, even with them playing their 2nd game of a back-to-back.
I guess they'll let us be in it during the first three quarters and then pull away in the fourth.

2) I think no one knows what the heck PJ and Presti(i'm sure he's involved as well) are thinking about that situation. There's never going to be a better time to give young guys a chance, yet, they'll somehow seem to think that giving minutes to guys like Elson and Marshall makes more sense.

dick you ignorant slut. if the sonics where tanking and trying to intentinally lose games dont you think the "company line" would be to play sene until he dropped and let the vets like marshal and elson rot on the bench? or do you think this is some kind of smoke screen or double bluff on the teams part?

Marshall & Elson are bums. That's why they were traded here. What have folks in every forum been saying? "Free Sene!" Remember, I think the moves are dual purpose, tank for ping pong balls while also killing fan interest. Who wants to watch Elson play? You can buy the company line until the bitter end, I couldn't care less. You'd never admit you were wrong about anything anyway. Once the team leaves, you'll just simply quit posting here before that ever happened.

ok dick. marshall and elson are bums. sene is an all-star in disguise. the ping pong balls will take care of themselves and the fan interest was on life support two months ago. and would you ever admit to being wrong either? i didn't think so. enjoy your bitter, paranoid life my friend. and if the supes do move, you make sure to hook up with that other bitter smart-ass thiel so you two can make sure you are on the same page. you know dick, you are right, if the team leaves i will simply stop posting here. but i hope you keep posting here so you can tell us over and over again that you where right.

PJ Never told Durant to stop taking threes, KD has eventually started taking smarter shots on his own

First of all, I'd also like to recognize the excellent job Det has done with these game threads. Especially in light of everything going on with this conflicted team. Det, you've been great.

As for PJ, he sucked during his return season. He's obviously well past his "use by" date. But he was probably the only coach Presti knew well enough to trust through what he knew would be a total piece of crap season. Going forward the Sonics need a coach who is capable of:
- connecting with & commanding the respect of the players,
- devising offensive/defensive schemes that align with his players' skill sets,
- clearly communicating player roles &
- maximizing the development of K Durant, J Green, J Petro & the other young Sonics.
That coach is clearly not PJ. Loyalty is always a necessary ingrediant, but by itself it's not enough to win games in the hyper competitive NBA.

It's true that K Durant's development is floundering in the sense of becoming a one dimensional player, even if his shot selection & scoring efficiency has improved. Last night's game may have been the best example of that all season. The only rebounds he got are those that happened to bounce his way. His defensive rotations sucked. Wait, on second thought, how could they suck. He didn't make any rotations. He wound up forcing shots because scoring is the only way he knows how to contribute. Anyone ever see K Durant on the floor after a loose ball? Or take a charge? Me neither.

On the other hand, last night's game was also a good example of the kind of player I think J Petro has a chance of becoming. He was very active. Lots of dirty work. He battled. To bad no one else showed up.

I continue to cringe watching E Watson mechanically trying to engage the offense. It's like watching gears grind. However, as much as the ball & player involvement improves with L Ridnour creatively pulling the levers, L Ridnour just can't seem to find another NBA PG that he's capable of defending. I can't wait unit D Rose arrives.

And finally, I can't think of a single decent reason why M Sene is not playing. D Marshall & F Elson are indeed bums. However, to be fair, D Marshall has been able to find his jersey more often recently. Not to say that M Sene is an all-star, but at least he's got upside. Which would be nice to try to figure out. And meaningless games at the end of the season are the perfect opportunity.

It's called the ownership is going out of their way to do the complete opposite of what the fans might want.
