All-NBA Teams
who would you guys have on your all-nba teams? keep in mind that positions do matter, unlike the all-defensive teams.
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/dailydime?page=dime-080405-06
i agree with marc stein's picks for the most part, but i would leave out ginobili and tmac and have deron williams and baron davis in.
First Team
F-LeBron James
F-Kevin Garnett
C-Amare Stoudemire
G-Kobe Bryant
G-Chris Paul
Second Team
F-Tim Duncan
F-Carlos Boozer
C-Dwight Howard
G-Deron Williams
G-Steve Nash
Third Team
F-Paul Pierce
F-Dirk Nowitzki
C-Marcus Camby
G-Allen Iverson
G-Baron Davis
It's debatable as to whether or not Amare/Dwight is most deserving of making the first team center. im pretty sure ginobili wont make most ballots because he hasnt played enough minutes (and i think ginobili is what every nba player should be minus the flopping). and with mcgrady, i just dont think hes had a good enough statistical year to warrant making one of the three all nba teams at guard.
kobe and chris paul are shoo ins, while nash will probably make the second team. that leaves 3 spots for grabs among these 5 guards: deron williams, baron davis, chauncey billups, allen iverson, and tmac. deron has had a great year statistically averaging almost 20/10 on a great utah team, so i have him on the second team for those reasons. iverson has also had a surprisingly great year too, so he makes it to my third team. baron davis is having a phenomenal year too, but i have deron and nash over him because their teams have been better and both have had even better years stats wise. the odd guys out are chauncey and tmac for me.
for third team forwards, you could actually have pierce out and carmelo anthony in, but other than that i cant see any surprises for the forward spots on the three teams.

The big WTF for me is Amare over Howard. Amare's completely deserving of second team, but I haven't had any real doubt all year of Howard's superiority. I'm really curious to here others thoughts on this.
Beyond that I've got Billups on my 2nd team, and have Williams and Boozer missing out all together. Somehow the second best team in the league has no one on his list, but 2 guys from the 8th best team in the league make 2nd team despite having the luxury of an incredibly deep supporting cast.

I completley agree about Howard over Amare. I think Amare has played fantastic and deserves 2nd team, but I can't think he belongs at Center over Dwight.
Also agree wtih Billups. Kobe, Cp3, Nash are the only guards I can put in front Billups.
Mine probably goes something like this:
First team:
G- Chris Paul
G- Kobe Bryant
F - Lebron James
F - Kevin Garnett
C - Dwight Howard
(This 1st team is pretty much set in stone for me at this point).
Second Team:
G- Steve Nash
G - Chauncey Billups
F - Dirk Nowitzki
F - Tim Duncan
C- Amare Stoudemire
Third Team:
G- Deron Williams/Baron Davis
G- Allen Iverson/Tracy McGrady/Manu Ginobli
F- Paul Pierce
F- Carlos Boozer
C- Marcus Camby
I honestly can't figure out the guards for the third team, they are all deserving. I guess the last games will probably help me figure it out a bit better. I like Dirk over Boozer personally, but I can see it the other way around.
Also strange seeing possibly the best player in the league (Duncan) on the second team. I can't put him this season alone over KG or Lebron, but damn Duncan is certainly 1st team deserving.

i can definitely say it wouldn't be a mistake to leave amare or dwight as first team center. dwight has probably meant more to the magic, but amare has played better overall throughout the WHOLE season, and since many ppl like mentioning team accolades in warranting a spot on the team, then phoenix has performed better than orlando. but again, i wouldn't have a problem with dwight on the first team either.
seriously though..how would you leave deron and boozer BOTH off the team?! any knowledgable basketball fan would agree that boozer and deron have both had incredible years on a winning team. those two factors definitely warrant selection onto the teams.
its debatable as to whether or not baron davis/allen iverson make the 3rd team if you want to factor in whether or not denver/gsw make the playoffs.

pretty fair assessment as well. i think most ppl will agree that paul/kobe/lebron/garnett are set in stone on the 1st team. dwight also seems to be the choice for 1st team center.
second team..nash seems to be a sure bet, as does duncan and amare. but the other guard is debatable for many, i would have deron over billups but i wouldnt have a huge problem with chauncey on the 2nd team. also, dirk/boozer is really a tossup imo, both have been huge for their teams.
and the 3rd team guard spots are highly controversial it seems. team success and/or individual stats, and depending on which you think is more important will probably end up deciding who makes it.

Don't know what you mean by Amare playing better "throughout the WHOLE season". Have you felt Howard's been erratic?
Never said Deron & Boozer weren't having great years, but so have others. In Deron's case, I've got Baron Davis and Allen Iverson on my 3rd team. Those guys' teams are only a few games back from Utah, and in my opinion carry the load more. In Boozer's case, I've got Dirk and Jamison on my 3rd team. I would hope no one would be shocked by me picking Dirk over Boozer, and I hope others are shocked by how good Washington's been despite crippling injuries.

howard hasnt been eratic, but his play has definitely been in decline throughout the season. having said that, i dont have a problem with howard making 1st team center.
i can understand your argument for baron and AI, but im rather surprised to see jamison on your 3rd team. most ppl will agree that lebron/KG are gona be the 1st team forwards, duncan/boozer OR dirk on the 2nd team, and boozer OR dirk/ ______? on the 3rd team. most ppl would rank pierce or carmelo as the remaining forward, so im interested to hear your reasoning for including jamison.

You can make a good case for a handful of guards and forwards for the 3rd team. Assuming you have Kobe and Paul on the 1st team, you could make an argument for Nash, Ginobli, D-Will, Davis, TMac, Iverson and Billups for the remaining 4 spots. Personally, I would go with Nash and TMac on the 2nd team, and AI and D-Will on the 3rd team.
As far as F's go, LBJ/KG/Duncan are all locks. The remaining 3 spots have to be filled by either Dirk/Melo/Boozer/Peirce/S-Jax. Personally here, I would put Boozer on the 2nd team, and Dirk and Melo on the 3rd team, but I would not be irritated if Peirce replaced any of them.
So overall, I got:
1st:
Kevin Garnett
LeBron James
Dwight Howard
Kobe Bryant
Chris Paul
2nd:
Tim Duncan
Carlos Boozer
Amare Stoudemire
Tracy McGrady
Steve Nash
3rd:
Dirk Nowitzki
Carmelo Anthony
Marcus Camby
Allen Iverson
Deron Williams

I don't think the voters will leave Pierce off. His scoring numbers are down, but it's because he's taking a full 4 FG a game less than usual, his lowest FGA numbers since his rookie season. He's playing the best defense of his career and I think the voters will reward his transformation this season. I really doubt the Nuggets get three players and Boston gets one.

If there were three really great center, I probably wouldn't list him that way. As it is, the competition is so weak that playing half the season listed at center is good enough for me.

Well, last year they voted in 3 PF/C's to the team in Dirk, Duncan and Amare.
They went completely out of their way to snub LeBron. They went against almost any criteria you could possibly have for a 1st teamer just so LeBron couldnt make it.

Hmm. I don't have a problem with someone saying Howard was better earlier in the year, but I don't perceive anything like a steep decline.
Regarding forwards, just to be clear, here's how I've got them right now:
LeBron/Garnett
Duncan/Pierce
Dirk/Jamison
Argument for Jamison? Well consider, last year the team was largely healthy, this year they've had devastating injuries which included playing almost entirely without last year's All-NBA 2nd teamer Gilbert Arenas. Most people thought they'd compete for worst record in the league. Instead they've actually improved.
Who deserves the credit for that? Well, Jamison's the only one whose been healthy the whole time, and he also leads the league in team net +/-. So I give a lot to him.
Let me clear though, Boozer and also David West are very much still in the running for my 3rd team.
