Denver/Sacramento Possible Re-Match?
Hey guys,
I have a question regarding the Sacramento/Denver game last night...
1) We saw the NBA force Miami and Atlanta to have a replay because of the mistake that was made regarding Shaq fouling out of the game.
George Karl was apparently so furious about Martin's suspension that he talked to Stu Jackson about it.
If the NBA takes back one of Martin's flagrant fouls which caused the suspension, will they force them to have a replay with Martin playing?
Or is the loss official and there is no chance of a replay?
I really hope Phoenix makes the playoffs (I am rooting for them in the West) and anytime Dallas, Golden State, and Denver lose, it increases the chances of them making the playoffs in such a tight race this season.
What will happen regarding Kenyon's suspension?
Perhaps they called a flagrant foul on him that shouldn't have been, in hindsight?
What if they realize they made a mistake in calling one of those fouls that resulted in a suspension?
Does that mean Sacramento and Denver will have a re-match?
Thanks.

the whole hawks/heat thing IMO was another story because that was a fault by the scoreboard manager and not the refs.
Yep, well said
Does anyone have a vid of the foul? I've looked on youtube and mixmakers and have yet so find any.

I sure hope there won't be a replay, for obvious reasons, ha ha.
But I have a bad feeling there might be one when you consider how tight the West playoff race is and the fact that Denver might miss it.
Don't you think they will try and do everything possible to make a case for having a re-match?
I just hope it doesn't happen.
Phoenix has a brutal schedule coming up and if Dallas/Golden State/Denver goes on a nice run, and Phoenix struggles, Phoenix might be out.

Here are some of his comments...
Sure sounds like they MIGHT try and force a re-match.
Then Camby commented about the suspension:
When you consider how close they are to missing the playoffs, I can't help but think they MIGHT try to appeal this.

We get picked on," said Karl, whose team is in the eighth and final playoff game, a game ahead of Golden State. "I think there's a harder core judgment to our guys than to some other guys. Maybe we've earned that, I don't know.
On Thursday, Karl had a heated phone conversation with Stu Jackson, the NBA's executive vice president, basketball operations.
I think it's wrong and (I'm) shocked," Karl said. "I don't comprehend the decision. . . . I feel there's some hypocrisy.
I hate to use the word fair and nonbiased," said Karl, his Nuggets (46-29) in a tight race to make the playoffs. "This is a major decision. It comes at a difficult time. . . . It feels more biased or more prejudice or hypocritical than it probably would have felt in January
Then Camby commented about the suspension:
I don't know about Kenyon's flagrant fouls," Nuggets center Marcus Camby said. "Some of them were probably questionable.

But technically speaking, is there ANY way possible that they can force a rematch over the Martin suspension?
He was playing GREAT before his suspension.
Or is it not even allowed to force a rematch over something like this?
Because Miami/Atlanta did have a rematch.
And has anything like that ever been appealed/challenged in NBA history? Or never?
Thanks.

it was called a flagrant in the game.
stu jackson reviewed the play and changed it to a flagrant 2...which put kmart over the limit for flagrant points, which gave him a suspension.
jackson did the same thing earlier in the year when kenyon inadvertently hit melvin ely with an elbow.
not only that he had two days to decide on a suspension and he did it after denver's morning shootaround on game day (after preparing for duncan thinking kmart would play)
meanwhile kenyon martin got a concussion from an inadvertent okur elbow while playing in utah, and he received nothing. shaq knocked 3 of diawara's teeth out with the elbow you see in the above video....his initial technical foul call was not turned into a flagrant 2 or a suspension.
and i'll remind everyone of this as well...

karl is understandably very upset with the league.
there's no way jackson overrules his own decision to replay a game though.

"What happened with Melvin in Wednesday's game was inadvertent. I apologized to him on the court and again after the game. He told me he knew it was an accident," Martin said in the statement.

Thanks for the detailed post.
I am still really nervous about a possible replay, though, LOL.
I am just very worried about Phoenix missing the playoffs because their up-coming schedule is BRUTAL and I still worry about Dallas/Golden State/Denver catching them and Phoenix missing the playoffs.
As a fan, I obviously hope that the three of them don't catch Phoenix.
But the way Denver reacted to the Martin suspension and the fact that they lost a critical game without him makes me really nervous.
There's still a very real possibility that Dallas/Golden State/Denver catches them and I OBVIOUSLY don't want that to happen, ha ha.
Phoenix still has to play Dallas, San Antonio, Houston, and Golden State.
And if they suffer a losing streak and Golden State/Dallas/Denver gets hot, they're in big trouble.
That's why I worry about a possible replay.

Whatever George Karl and the nuggets need a giant cup of STFU with extra StopCryingPlease.
If the Nuggets can't beat the Kings without Ron Artest, Beno Udrih, AND Brad Miller then they don't deserve anything.
And by that I mean they don't deserve to make the playoffs, they don't deserve a replay, and quite frankly they don't deserve anymore threads about them.
Keep in mind I'm saying this despite being a big Carmelo and Kenyon Martin fan.

Not only was I shocked that Sacramento won in Denver, but when I heard Denver lost when Artest and Miller didn't even play, I was like "WHAT?!"
This is the same team that beat a very hot Suns team a few days ago and there is no WAY a team with Iverson, Carmelo, and Camby should have lost a home game against a Kings team missing Artest and Miller.
However, Martin brings a lot of intensity to the team and he was playing great before his suspension.
I think they WOULD have won if he played.
That's where my concern about having a replay comes in...

Maybe that idiot thug Martin should, well, I don't know...quit fouling players flagrantly...
I'm sure that would be a stretch for him.

This is such a brutally stupid post it's difficult to believe someone with capacity for operating a computer and typing out sentences actually wrote it. No one affiliated with the Nuggets ever suggested that they lost the game because Kenyon was missing or that there should be a replay. They suggested before the game that the suspension was stupid. The suggestion of a replay, etc., was merely from the op.
And here are my thoughts on the subject:
First, there won't be, and shouldn't be, a replay of the game no matter what happens.
Second, the Nuggets probably would have won the game with K Mart because they wouldn't have given up such a pathetic number of second-chance points if their most physical big man had played. That doesn't alter the unforgiveable pathetic-ness of the loss, even without Martin, but facts are facts.
Third, the suspension is absolutely pathetic. What kind of a league is it that goes out of its way to suspend a starter in the middle of one of the best playoff races in the history of the league? Of course, what could we expect from a league that suspended Stoudamire (and not Duncan)in the playoffs?

If we replayed every game because of a bad call, every team's record would be 0-0 right now. You don't replay a game because of a bad call, whether it be a bad 6th foul, a suspension, whatever. Most people didn't think the Suns players should have been suspended vs. the Spurs. If Stern wakes up one day and thinks he made a mistake, do we replay the 2007 NBA Playoffs?
