Project our record for the last 5 games...

Post#1 » by eyeatoma » Sun Apr 6, 2008 7:01 am

Well its the last 5 games of the season. Our record during the stretch run can make or break our chances of getting in the 2nd round. Obviously there are a couple of teams we would much rather prefer playing, the Cavs and Magic come to mind, some even say Detroit.

How do you think we'll do in the last 5 games? IMO, we've slipped a little in the last 5-7 games, and I really hope we didn't peak too soon, and have now officially begun coming back down to earth. We need to maintain this intensity...

This brings up another interesting question. Are we overachieving? Was this just an anomaly, which will correct itself next season, when we return to our cellar dwelling ways?(Alright maybe not cellar dwelling, but once again end up with a mid-lottery pick)

Heres how I see the last 5 games of the season going

Detroit @ Philadelphia L 89-98

This game could actually go either way. If we're still playing with the same fire that we were during much of March, then I think we can win. Detroit is resting their starters a bit more, as they've already clinched, and will probably be getting some much needed rest before the playoffs, as well as prevent any untimely injuries. However, the Pistons are still an excellent team, and will definitely want some revenge after the loss they suffered to us the last time these two teams played each other.

Indiana @ Philadelphia W 114-107

This should be a pretty high scoring game, and actually might be a little dangerous. The pacers are barely in playoff contention and will still be competitive. Also this is a team loaded with 3 point shooters, our achilles heel, so we need to make sure we get a good start, and not take our foot off the gas.

Philadelphia @ Washington W 104-102

This game could very well be the most important of the season as far as playoff positioning goes. There will definitely be palpable tension between the two teams, and I can see a couple of technicals being thrown around by the refs. Both teams come out flat in the beginning, but then making it a pretty decent game. Hopefully we're able to squeak through...

Cleveland @ Philadelphia W 117-112

This game could be important on so many levels. If the Cavs lose a couple more games prior to this, this could once again give us an oppurtunity at getting the 4th seed, and home court for the 1st round. I see us winning this game though, as the players probably have a bad taste in their mouth after the slip up we had when we last played each other.

Philadelphia @ Charlotte W 121-95

Ahh...nothing like facing a minnow to get your spirits up right before the playoffs begin. Granted, the Bobcats have been playing pretty well for the last 10 games or so, beating the likes of the Lakers, Blazers, and Raptors. But I can't see us letting up in this game, and envision a good old fashioned rout.

No, in my opinion, to all of these...then again, I'm a wild optimist.

EDIT, Marc from Deep Sixer said it better than I ever could of:
The 76ers were so satisfied with clinching a playoff berth on Friday that they took a little extra time off

Yeah I see either Detroit or Washington being our only loss as well. For some reason though, I have this inkling, that we're not going to start from where we left off.

Again, I'm more of an optimist and I think we'll continue our trend of destroying bad teams and competing against the better ones. Factor in the following:

-Iguodala will hopefully have been resigned
-Thaddeus Young will be 20, Lou will essentially be in his Sophmore year
-Andre Miller will be in a contract year
-Hopefully we'll have found better options at SG and PF in FA or the draft

And I think we'll remain competitive (45+ wins?) next season. I can't see a coach like Mo telling players to go on "cruise control", even at the start of the season.

I hope for our sakes you're wrong :P

3-2, could be worse.

We're not playing as well as we were 2 weeks ago, could lose to Detroit, Cleveland, and Washington/Indy. Hoping for better, though.

We could go 4-1, or 2-3. Let's just hope we come out with good energy and not come out slack against the teams we should beat.

If Detroit is resting players, 4-1, the loss will be Washington.

Yeah, I'm starting to have difficulty getting a read on this team. We've been pretty inconsistent the last couple of games, and am hoping that MO comes up with some good motivational speeches to make sure we don't let up. We've got to beat Indiana, and Charlotte, and try to make it a point to beat both Washington and Cleveland...IMO, I think we can afford to lose to Detroit, yet still be in contention for the 5th seed if we win all the other games.

Like I said in last night's game thread.. this team doesn't have the luxury of relying on their talent the way some other teams might. They have to play hard every single night, every single quarter.

If the Sixers go out and beat Detroit I see them rec-atching fire and going 5-0.

I agree with you TK....if we win the Detroit game I think we win out. The Washington game is SO HUGE! I can't wait for it! I may go down to that one

3-2.

Finish 42-40.

I agree with you as well TK...the Detroit game is going to set the tone for this 5 game stretch run.

I have us going 4-1 with our one loss coming at Washington. Washington has a bit of a rough schedule themselves and will need to win against us in order to keep the 5 seed.

I also agree, if they can manage to beat Detroit, I could see them going 5-0.

However, I don't think they'll beat Detroit, and will go 3-2 overall. I also wouldn't be surprised if they went 2-3.

 A loss to Detroit puts means they lost 4 of 6- meaning the hot streak is officially over.

This young team doesn't blow past anybody this time of year unless they are riding the wave of momentum.

Good thing is, we still control our own destiny as far as seeding up to 5th goes. IMO, the Wizards game will decide the final seedings.

Return to Philadelphia 76ers
