Do you think that was true? I just don't see him being 6'9, because I've seen him in person standing next to his brother who is 6'6 and he towers him.

Most sites have him as 6'10 for his actual barefoot measurement. Even 6'10 sounds short for a dominant NBA center, but that's only because we're used to inflated/fake NBA heights - most NBA players are a good 1.5 to 2 inches shorter than what they say they are. Most NBA centers are actually 6'9 to 6'11 - although there are some legit 7 footers out there (for example, Shaq is 7'0, maybe 7'1, and Yao is a 7'5). Some NBA centers get by at heights normally thought of as in the SG/SF range - i.e. Ben Wallace is actually 6'7 max, though that is actually taller than most SFs.
To give you a good idea:
C: Dwight measured at 6'9 1/2 barefoot, but is listed at 6'11
PF: Amare measured at 6'8 1/2 barefoot, but is listed at 6'10
SF: Caron measured at 6'5 1/4 barefoot, but is listed at 6'7
SG: Kobe measured at 6'4 3/4 barefoot, but is listed at 6'6
PG: Nash measured at 6'1 barefoot, but is listed at 6'3
edit: not all players exagerate their heights though. Chauncey is actually 6'3 barefoot, KG is apparently slightly taller than his listed 6'11, but didn't want to be stuck into the center mold by listing himself as 7'0, Desmond Mason apparently measured at 6'6 barefoot, but is listed at 6'5, etc.
