They were going no where with Nash, they proved time and time again that duo wasn't going to win in that specific system. And Avery is a defensive minded coach, he wouldn't have let Nash run like he does in phx, so Nash wouldn't have become as good as he has.
Out of who they had to pick from, they built around the right guy. Dirk isn't the problem in Dallas. Howard isn't playing as good as he was last year, and Kidd isn't a good fit for that team. They need a point guard who can consistently shoot the three, which he can't do.
Did the Mavs build thier team around the wrong guy ??

Yeah...he finally started playing like the regular season meant something when the 1st agreed deal was announced. Prior to that he had been playing like it was a scrimage. That had nothing to do with Kidd's play on the court.
Yep once again it's not like Kidd has eased the pressure on Dirk or has gotten him the ball in places where it's easier for him to score...

You are right, but but the added pressure on Dirk, now that Harris' scoring load and penetration is gone, is a pressue that he did step up to accept. However, I do think more pressure is on Avery to change is system than the pressure on Dirk.NetsForce wrote:Yep once again it's not like Kidd has eased the pressure on Dirk or has gotten him the ball in places where it's easier for him to score...
Edit: BTW, I know you are tyring to be sarcastic, but Kidd has not gotten Dirk, Josh or Bass the ball in any better posiition or any easier than Harris did. However, Kidd has made it easier on Dampier, Stackhouse and maybe Terry.

The three is the only thing he can shoot.

Hmmm I don't know the one player I think Kidd hasn't helped that much is Howard... However, a lot of that is due to the fact that Howard just doesn't know how to continue his attack once he catches the ball. He'll catch the ball from J-Kidd and then just stop, let the defense set, and isolate. I'm not a Mavs fan but it frustrates the hell out of me, when he's on the fastbreak and gets the rock from Kidd he should be taking the ball to the rim with authority.
Still at least we agree that Avery needs to adjust his sytem.

Dirk was the right choice from the past and right now...
But the Mavs need another top scorer next to Dirk, probably being at SG. The disparity to the rest of the team when Dirk isn't scoring well (because of the defense being played on him), which is when he's best, is too much.
Kobe would of been ideal.

Their role players are just pathetic, and they are all great individually. They have no defensive stopper, they have no clutch three point shooter, they have no hustle guy either (last person was Eduardo Najera)
They didn't build around the wrong guy, even their trios and groupies are great, but they are great individual players, and no player really contribute to making Dirk a perennial legend.

For all the Dirk/Avery bashing, you have to give them credit for being the only team since Shaq/Kobe Lakers to beat the Spurs in a seven game series.
I do agree Avery gets outcoached though and that is a big disadvantage in the upcoming playoffs, where coaching is absolutely critical because of the talent parity. I think they should try going after Larry Brown or someone with a proven playoff pedigree if they lose this year.

Thank you Bryan Colangelo.
