LOL Josh Smith gets out rebounded by the entire NBA while at PF, that's what I see and that's what the stats support. The ENTIRE NBA out boards Josh Smith. You add to that the fact that the Sixers need a PF for low post scoring, Josh Smith adds 0 low post scoring. So what is the benefit of adding Josh Smith to the Sixers? We need low post scoring at the PF NOT a SF that rebounds worse than Reggie Evans and offers nothing in the low post. We already have a shotblocker with no low post game, his name is Samuel Dalembert.
Josh Smith has nothing in common with The Matrix, nothing. Josh Smith supporters forget that The Matrix has an excellent outside shot, can guard 4-5 positions for an entire game and is a double digit rebounder. Smith brings none of those abilities.

My opinion is that Josh Smith is a good or very good SF, but wouldn't be nearly as productive as a PF. His offense wouldn't be my main concern, but defending that position smartly and rebounding would be.
AK47 is a toss-up...

Throw in the fact that he's a fan favorite, and I can't see the Sixers getting him unless they seriously overpay, or Smith tells the Hawks that he wants out.
Unless something blows up between Smith and the Hawks the only way they trade him is in return for a center so that Horford can play PF. I recall chatting with some Hawks fans who basically said Horford is the new Golden Boy down in Hawk land and that the team wants to move him to PF. Unless you want to sned Sammy south and open up another big hole in the lineup I don't think we could meet that demand, unless the Hawks are closet Jason Smith lovers.

yet he averages 8 rebs per game playing with al horford
he guards the 2,3, and 4 as well.
the outside shot isnt there yet, but hes working on it, he sorked out with hakeem over the summer and some other HoFer to work on shot and ball handling. and hes only 21
and the hawks have already said they would match any offer for josh smith and chill

I like the prospects of a future with Big Meech at PF over Josh Smith...

Kirilenko and Odom were two names that I brought up before. The former will almost certainly be available, while the latter might be (depending on the Lakers' confidence in being able to extend him, and/or their willingness to pay luxury tax).
I can't see Okafor or Biedrins leaving their respective teams at a reasonable price. They're just too valuable to them.

The Hawks probably are better off in a S/T than resigning Smith. They would probably be better off resigning Childress to be their bench swing player, and moving Horford to PF next to Pachulia until they can upgrade Pachulia. Smith @ PF just doesn't seem to work as he doesn't defend or rebound exceptionally well. Bibby/JJ/Williams/Horford/upgraded center (doesn't take much) is actually a pretty nice lineup.

uh huh.
There's fact, and then there's exaggeration. I'd love to see you back that one up with fact.

Why don't you guys try Childress at the 4, at least he has the Ben Wallace 'fro down pat.

I like Childress as a player over Josh Smith. Josh Smith has blocked a couple of shots, won a slam dunk contest, and all of a sudden people forgot that he's just a marginally skilled athlete. He's a major tweener and people are banking on the fact that there will continue to be fewer and fewer talented big men in the NBA making players like Josh Smith more capable at the PF position. But The reality is that the NBA will never lack PF's and C's to the point where a team with a SF at the PF position can win a CHIP. The teams with real front lines will continue to be the teams winning the championships. The Lakers might have a "4-peat" in their future...
Forget Josh Smith we need to be focusing on how to get an Al Horford, Al Jefferson, Boozer, or even Noah. All this talk about the Sixers should get J. Smith or Tyrus Thomas or Charlie V. to play the starting PF is just wishing the Sixers into a guaranteed future without a CHIP.

Al Horford and especially Noah are not CHIP pf's. With Jefferson and Boozer's defense, I'm not even sure they are.

I just don't think he's going to be the type of guy you build a frontcourt around. I think he projects to a good offensive option, but not an 18-20 ppg scorer. I think he projects to a solid defender, but not a great defender.
Let me rephrase. I think you could "win a CHIP" with him if you have another dominant frontcourt player, but I don't think you "build a CHIP frontcourt" around Horford. I just don't think he has that type of potential, on either end of the court.

Wait...I'm confused...
When you say that guys like Horford and Jefferson are not CHIP-level PF's...were you kidding?
I mean...realistically, I don't know if we will be able to get a PF that is better/has more upside than Horford or Jefferson. If you don't think that they are good enough, then:
1) Who do you envision us getting that is better than those guys?
and
2) Are we screwed?
I will say in all honesty that I havew not seen a ton of T-Wolves games, but my general impression is that Jefferson is beast...and I think that Horford certainly has that potential...
Wait...
You were kidding...right?

In terms of a championship? Yes.
And no, I wasn't kidding. Jefferson is a beast. But he's a very bad defender. In fact, he's not a bad defender, he's a terrible defender. Both man and team. In 2-3 years when youth and potential have worn off, he'll be thought of like Zach Randolph. A more likable Randolph, but not a CHIP pf.
IMO.
I've already stated my reasoning for Horford.
It's going to take a lot of luck for us to get a championship level big man, IMO. If we're talking about championship, yes, we have a LOT of work to do, and need a LOT of luck.
(I'm not sure why I'm bolding and underling, but it seems to be fashionable from the looks of your post

No doubt we would need to get very lucky to get to the finals anytime soon- but what do you expect when we where considered a bottom 8 team 2 months ago. I'm glad to at least see this team be both so young and heading in the right direction. It would take a lot of good/lucky steps to a CHIP, but at least they seem to be rebuilding with quality (if not superstar) players.
It will help the Sixers are in the East. they need to be good, but not great for a chance to make the Finals- and a good team can beat a great team in one series (See Heat v. Mavs.) No way will a merely good team run the gauntlet in the West.
Also, with lots good young players and cap space, the Sixers could be in a position to acquire a 30 year old superstar in exchange for cap space, picks and a prospect. It happens every year, and the Sixers might finally be on the recieving end of that type of deal.
In addition to getting the star, we need to see Iguodala, Young and maybe Lou raise their level to be impact NBA players. Iguodala is probably already there, but needs to get more effecient offensively. Thad has a great shot, and Lou could really grow into his role as assassin.

Now, dabods...only two bolded words in my post (no caps, no underlines, etc...).
I think I have come a long way.
I guess that if you feel that way - that there is no PF out there who can get us to a CHIP level - then perhaps what we do is 1) try instead to use our cap space to get a potentially dominant SG, and 2) hope/pray that Thad can grow 1-2 inches, put on 15-20 lbs, and be our own little J-Smoove.
(and pray that we get lucky with our pick in this years draft)
I certainly don't want to overpay for a less-than-top-tier PF - it simply doesn't make sense. CLE is paying something like $7 mil a year for 3 years for Varejao - and I'm sure that Turiaf's agent and the agent for any other less-than top-tier PF will try to use that contract as a benchmark.
Uhhh....no thanks.
