OT: Memphis vs. Kansas

Post#1 » by miller31time » Tue Apr 8, 2008 3:32 am

This game is freaking amazing.

Kansas has battled back from about 8 down with 2 minutes to go, to get within 3 with 10 seconds left.

Chalmers (sp?), Kansas' star player, comes up court and nails a 3 with 2 seconds to go.

And we're headed into overtime.

If you aren't already watching this game (for what reason, I have no idea), put it on.

CBS, NOW.

Rock, Chalk, Jayhawk!

I'm stunned.

Missed FTs and stupid fouls come back to haunt the Tigers.

I'm an even bigger fan of Chalmers & Rush now - and may need to reconsider on Arthur, as well.

Great game.

That shot by Chalmers at the end of regulation was just sick.

And it isn't a coincidence that free throws bit the Tigers in the ass. They have all season.

Boo! I was hoping that Rose would step up and beat KU. Here in Kansas City, we have these vicious KU v. Mizzou border wars.

Good game though. Exciting, which seemed lacking for much of the tourney this year.

It was just plain STUPID on Memphis part. You're up by 3 with mere seconds to play.....you know Kansas needs a 3 to send the game into overtime. Do you let them shoot, or do you FOUL THEM AND SEND THEM TO THE LINE FOR TWO SHOTS?!!!!!! Duuuhhhhhhhh....... Let's see, 3pts for the tie....or 2 free throws for a 1pt loss??? hmmmmm, can someone answer that one? :banghead:

Or they could have, you know, made another FT or two.... ;-)

Poetic justice.

And if you are Memphis, I totally understand not fouling. If you foul with 4 or 5 seconds on the clock and Kansas makes their free throws, then Kansas will foul you. Memphis can't assume they'll make theirs. Now you've got a 1-point game with 3 seconds left and Kansas ball.

Like most of you I picked Memphis to be out due to their poor free throw shooting. I didn't expect it to be the final minute of the final game before it bit them in the ass but it finally did.

That entire game was amazing. We just saw last night one of the best defensive performances, by both teams, we will ever see and proof that defense is not just blocking shots. All those turnovers were not the sloppy crap that Maryland exhibits, most were off of GREAT steals by the defenders. I was rooting for Kansas so I'm a bit biased but that was one of the best championship games I've ever seen.

Not to mention the potential offensive rebound off a missed free throw. I think I would have fouled (assuming of course that I was alert enough to recognize the exact situation) but its not an easy call.

Awesome game! I thought Kansas was done. Folks have already discussed the FT shooting. I'll add that the Memphis center fouling out is really what allowed Kansas to control overtime. Just a great win.

Anybody know who that beefy kid on the Memphis bench was? He looked like an offensive lineman who put on the wrong uniform by mistake and they just let him stay on the bench.

everyone needs Dave Hopla. If he can get Haywood to shoot FT's, he can get anyone to.

as for the game......i'm dissapointed in Memphis. You hit all your FT's for the entire tournament until the championship.

One thing that has me excited is that there seems to be abundance of skilled big men in college right now. Not centers maybe, but a whole bunch of promising looking power forwards.
