I hope this is just a) a misquote or out of context on behalf of a Philly paper or b) Smoove just trying to start self-marketing to drive up his price further this off-season. Enough to make me nervous anyway. Just a little.

I say if they take Smoove from us we take Iggy from them!

This team is Smoove's to lose. He could be the cornerstone of this franchise for years to come. I don't know if he leaves a situation he helped build from the ground up to share the load and floor with Iggy. And I don't know if I buy the idea that Louis Williams would recruit Smoove to Philly. Smoove should be the one bringing Lou Will back home to the Hawks.

Re-signing Smoove was one of the main reasons I want us to make the post-season. Give this guy some freaking incentive to want to stay here.

The Philly fans have been talking about who to go after all year. They do need a PF and Smith is unrestricted.

When Billups was on the market there were articles in the Atlanta papers talking about how he would fit in here and there were quotes from him to the same effect.

LL is right, Smith will go where the money is but Philly can't offer any more than we can and the ASG should know that losing Smith would be a complete disaster and destroy any good will that a playoff appearance could bring. I guess I wouldn't put anything past those clowns but it wouldn't make sense.

Philly is the worst jumpshooting team in the league and Smith is a horrible jump shooter who likes to shoot them anyway. Not exactly a match made in heaven.

Brand makes more sense to Philly, but it isn't guaranteed he would opt out. While I understand that Smith can run the floor and that's nice to really win they'll need someone who can provide a half court scoring option when they can't break. Brand would be a low post beast and automatic short jump shooter to compliment the athleticism of Iggy, Thaddeus, and Dalembert.

As for taking Iggy, nice thought but financially it doesn't work. We can exceed the cap to resign our own RFAs, but if we lose them we don't have cap room to seriously go after others.

As for Josh self-marketing, he has to. If no one bids for his services he could get lowballed by the Hawks and forced to sign a 1 year deal (like I expect Ben Gordon to do) to get unrestricted or get stuck in a holdout (like Anderson Varajeo last year). While he and the team could work out a reasonable deal, the only leverage he has is that he can sign an offer sheet. It's just the way the system works.

Smith's just working to get a bigger paycheck from next season and that's what anyone would do in that situation. I really doubt the Hawks would let him go though. A lot of people in the organization really like him. I think the only way we can lose him is if he says publicly he wants to go somewhere else just like JJ did. In that case, of course a trade would happen. While I do not know about his intentions, I think BK should be evaluating all possible scenarios.

That is true actually. And from reading the Philly board, many of them don't like Smoove for a big contract either.

I guess I just looked at it as him being a good fit there because they would be possibly the most athletic team in the league with Daly, Iggy, Carney, and Louis. Daly and Smith under the basket swatting shots would be crazy.

But you are right, they couldn't shoot at all, and still wouldn't have a threat to score inside.

It's a big risk to turn down 5/50 and sign a 1 year qualifier for about 4M to get free. You really only do that if your relationship with the team has degraded to a point of really wanting out. Furthermore, he could get hurt or his market value could drop with a bad season. I think ultimately he'll be in the 5/55 - 5/60 range. Considering the high probability that the Hawks will match an offer, Sixers have to be careful. An offer sheet ties up that money for 10 days while the Hawks can match which could cost opportunities at other free agents.

Being unrestricted only matters if there is a team under the cap willing to pay him big bucks. If there isn't a team under the cap willing to pay him then he will have to rely on the hawks to work out a SNT deal, which puts him right back where he will be this summer.

There will be other free agents out there and few teams under the cap, as usual.
