Atlanta Pick breakdown/ east standings

Post#1 » by nevetsov » Mon Apr 7, 2008 3:07 am

Just keeping an eye on the standings in te East; with their win today, Indiana move within 3 games of the Hawks and are playing some good ball as well. Each team has 5 games yet to play.

For Indiana to make the playoffs ahead of Atlanta the following needs to happen:

Indiana MUST beat Atlanta on Tuesday in Indiana. (done)
Boston MUST take care of business and beat Atlanta in Atlanta saturday.
Duly, Indiana MUST beat Charlotte in Indiana on the same day.

AND Indiana have to lose one less game than Atlanta during the following:

Indiana also play in Philly on Friday, Atlanta play in New York.
Indiana plays Washington next Monday.
Atlanta plays Orlando next Tuesday.
Indiana hosts New York and Atlanta visits Miami next Wednesday.

I see all of the above 3 games as must wins for Indiana, and Atlanta having to lose to Orlando. The Indiana- Sixers matchup will be the tough one but if the Hawks beat them, then Indiana will have to prove they can beat them as well.

It's a bit of a stretch I know, but it's worth keeping an eye on, especially if it's the difference between an #11 pick and a #15 pick.

It's funny that they've been sucking for years, and they choose the year they don't own their pick to do well.

It's not so much that they stopped sucking as the ENTIRE CONFERENCE started sucking worse. They're still five games under .500.

I mean.. in the West, winning 50 games *might* get you a playoff spot.

In the East, that gets you the #3 spot and possibly a conference championship.

I bow my head in shame every time I have realized that in the past few weeks.

Worst conference ever.

p.s. Hasheem Thabeet with the pick.

I argued very hard before the season started that the Hawks would not make the playoffs. And if they do, it won't be the Hawks who made me a liar; it will be the absolute meltdowns of the Heat, Bulls and Nets at various points this season. I mean, who saw that coming? I even thought Milwaukee and Charlotte would show enough improvement this year to give the Hawks some trouble, but they both sucked. It's disappointing, but typical Suns fortune.

The only problem with Indiana catching Atlanta right now is that both Boston and Orlando have 6-game leads over the next closest team. I hope they find something to play for against the Hawks.

I bet Atlanta's still going to get a whuppin'. Boston hasn't let up at all the whole year, and Orlando has a bit of pride about their sudden awesomeness.

Hey hey hey now. Enough of your willing them to a playoff spot. Start doubting them and willing them to the 9th spot. Nothing is clinched yet. I do see the Pacers pulling this off.

You guys realize that even if they made the lottery, they would find a way to get the 15th pick, right?

Pacers beat the Hawks tonight. There is still hope! 4 games left for both teams Hawks play the Knicks, Celtics, Magic, and Heat. If they go 2-2 in those 4 and the pacers win out Pacers get the 8 seed because Pacers have the tie Breaker. Pacers have games against Philly, Charlotte, Washington, and New York.

I wouldn't be shocked if the Knicks doesn't give Hawks a run for their money.

The Hornets and New York have nothing to play for at this point in the season and Washington and Philly are in the playoffs already I think.
It's possible that the Pacers win 3 out of 4 so I'm hoping for the best.
