He's got great hands around the rim. Similar to our Monta.
It's one of the things I really like about his story. While folks were getting down on him for not being intense and explosive it was really about protecting his young body during recovery after serious injury. While everyone thought he was coasting, or passive, he was adding a ton of finesse and smarts to his game. He became a better player because the injury/recovery fear period made him do something other than just be athletic. He became a complete player while everyone was dissapointed in him for not just relying on and exploiting his natural gifts.
He's going to have the last laugh thought.
Agreed with your assessment. I thought eventhough Rose was very patient in the first-half (to a fault actually), he stepped up his game when it counted and almost single-handedly will Memphis to victory.
I don't think he has problem changing directions if necessary, but last night Kansas just packed the lane and doubled on Rose whenever he tried to do that, and Kansas' bigs did really well on those switches and recoveries. They were essentially "tripled-team" him with an extra defender down in the middle. He simply had no ways to go most of the time, yet he still found his teammates on numerous occasions in the very-packed lane.
What I had a problem with, is his defensive effort, or lack thereof. Maybe he was just preserving his energy to use it on the other end, but he was very dis-interested in actually guarding anybody and he didn't move his feet well at all when the Kansas guards attacked him, directly and off the dribble. He's have to improve that aspect of his game.
But otherwise, this kid has a "franchise player" written all-over him.
