I think a Wade-Marion-Beasley trio would be equally absurd. Get a 3pt-shooting PG and a big defensive center and you have a championship roster.

Most teams would pick Beasley because he is clearly the better player. One of the main principles in NBA basketball is "never draft a player because of team needs! Instead, always pick the best player available". That's what every smart GM does.

Finally some sanity. None of those other teams, with the exception of maybe Minnesota, have a pg or pf good enough to determine whether or not a team drafts Rose or Beasley, so theyre going to go with whoever they think is better.

Bulls would go Rose over Beasley IMO.

A lot would also depend on the coach they bring in, which could change it. But with Rose, the Bulls could so every easily implement a running, up tempo team. If they were to bring in a half court coach like JVG though, it could go either way, and they'd do whoever they thought was better.

And if the Bulls luck out with either of the first two spots, they have enough assets to consolidate that they will be able to cover the spot they don't take.

All that being said, its like a 1.7% chance, so unless the fix is in, its a kind of a pointless discussion.

Actually, there is one: the LA Clippers. The Clips have a PF in Brand. What they really need is a PG. Actually, they need help in the backcourt period. And Rose is the answer. You're talking about one of the slowest teams in the league with easily the worst offensive sets. They need a guy like Rose badly.

Even with the Clips, they'd still take whoever they think is the best player. Brand is an upcoming free agent next yr. Of course they do need a pg, but its incredibly foolish to pick based on need with the top pick and not go with whoever you think is the best player unless you have someone penciled in for the next 5-6 yrs as an allstar caliber player.

cdash wrote:I really dont think Beasley is a slam dunk pick at all for Miami. A Wade/Rose backcourt would be insanely scary for opposing teams. Franchise point guards are harder to come by than franchise forwards. Thats just the way it is. Plus, the Heat's current PG situation is abysmal, and free agency doesnt pose a ton of sparkling options for them. They still have an underrated Udonis Haslem at the 4 and Marion at the 3, so I dont think choosing Beasley makes "an absurd amount of more sense" than choosing D-Rose.

If Beasley is gone then I guess you can take him but it otherwise would make no sense.

Rose is a guy who should have the ball in his hands to be a playmaker particularly with his ability to set himself up.

Why in the world would Miami Heat need a guy like that in their backcourt when they already have one?

By far Beasley is a better fit. It's not even close honestly. The lack of an interior presence is their biggest weakness.

VERY few GMs do this however, even now years after the "we didn't draft MJ because we had two good guards" Portland debacle. Bogut over Chris Paul & Deron Williams? Darko Millicic over Carmelo Anthony & Dwayne Wade?

I think we'll still see GMs drafting on need.

Too be fair, based on all the hype and the "scouting reports" the draft order did go in order of best player available. For the first 5 picks anyways.

Agreed. That made no sense to me. They do have Brand, Kamen, Tim Thomas, and Al Thorton who can play PF/C.

Mr. Tim "I hate contact" Thomas playing PF or even C?
Skinny Thorton playing PF/C?

But still they would take Rose.

Kings fans seem to mostly prefer Rose. It's true that PG and PF are our biggest needs, but Rose would fit our needs at PG much more so than Beasley would at PF--in other words, we don't want a poor defender next to Hawes.

If the Nets had the choice they probably pick Beasley , Rose doesn't make any sence with 2 young PG's already under contract.

Seattle would take Rose.

I do think a Green, Beasley, Durant, trio could create a lot of mismatches.

Green and Beasley can play the 3/4 and Durant can play the 2/3/4.

But bottom line the Sonics are desperately in need of a legit starting PG.

If the Sonics end up with the third pick I can see them drafting Bayless.
