Zach Randolph in Cleveland? Hear Me Out First

Post#1 » by lowermerionfilms » Wed Apr 9, 2008 4:27 pm

Yes, I'm a Knicks fan. Yes, I acknowledge this guy has all kinds of downside. In fact, there's only one team in the league I think would even consider trading for him, and it's Cleveland. I'm posting here because I wanted to get some feedback from your fanbase. Here's the proposed trade:

New York Trade Breakdown
Change in Team Outlook: -16.0 ppg, -4.8 rpg, and -0.8 apg.
Incoming Players
Ben Wallace
Outgoing Players
Zach Randolph
Renaldo Balkman

Cleveland Trade Breakdown
Change in Team Outlook: +16.0 ppg, +4.8 rpg, and +0.8 apg.
Incoming Players
Zach Randolph
Renaldo Balkman
Outgoing Players
Ben Wallace

Before you stop reading, look at the increase in points and rebounds! Randolph is a lot of things (party guy, ball hog, surly), but lazy is not one of them. Maybe he's lost interest as the season wore on, but he's a legit 20/10 guy in the low post. There aren't many of these guys in the league, and as far as I know, he's the only one who's likely to be available through trade any time soon. Ben Wallace is an absolute disaster and he's only going to get worse.

Also, because of the development of Wilson Chandler, the Knicks now have a young SF available as a throw-in to this deal. Balkman offers you 10 minutes a night of defense and hustle while Lebron grabs a cup of Gatorade.

Sure, Randolph's contract runs a year longer than Lebron's, but the Cavs aren't looking to get under the cap. They need players NOW. Randolph can definitely help Cleveland win a title. If you had Zach right now instead of Wallace, wouldn't you be the favorites in the East?

Okay, I'm ready for feedback. Be gentle.

No. Lebron would hate him and his laziness.

It's just not fair to say Randolph is lazy. He's a big guy with a fat ass, true. He doesn't get back on defense too quickly, but if he's on a contender, he will do everything he can to win. Plus, Lebron needs a guy who's offense down low must be respected. Look how effective Ilgauskas has been when healthy. I think Lebron's talent is so great, Randolph will have to realize that he's the second option on offense. I could see him averaging 20-25 pts a game for Cleveland and shooting over 50% from the field.

Before you stop reading, look at the increase in points and rebounds! ...and loss of defense, toughness, good attitude, etc etc.Randolph is a lot of things (party guy, ball hog, surly), but lazy is not one of them. Sure, Randolph's contract runs a year longer than Lebron's, but the Cavs aren't looking to get under the cap. They need players NOW. Randolph can definitely help Cleveland win a title. If you had Zach right now instead of Wallace, wouldn't you be the favorites in the East? No, we weren't favorites when Drew Gooden was our PF. How will replacing him w/ Randolph help?

Its just crazy enough................... to not work.

I wanted the Cavs to go after him full on when he was available with the Blazers before the Knicks got him, and was upset we didnt make a better push to get him. I later admitted my mistake and praised the front office for not going after him. Besides we've already broken half of the No Knicks / No Wally rule, we cant afford to break the other half.

Yeah, but just look at the type of high you can achieve when acquiring such a beast like Zach Randolph..

Yes, In a heart beat.

Lazy, cancer etc. Zach Randolph plus Renaldo Balkman >>>>>>>>> Ben Wallace

Sad thing is even the Knicks won't do it.

Randolph is a lot better than Gooden, and almost as good as Boozer. Plus we'd finally have a low post threat and a legit #2 option.

Wallace is busted, basically he's trade fodder in 22 months. I'd give it a shot if we have no other options this summer. I wouldn't want to add him midseason, however.

Of course with this deal you'd be helping the Knicks get under the cap in a couple of years....

Neither Zach or Boozer play good defense. The big difference is Boozer will get his 20 points within the flow of the offense. Zach will force shots over 2-3 defenders and will not pass the ball out. but god i would be so happy if you guys took Zachass of our hands.

I can really see Lebron coming to New York if the Cavs don't win a championship by the time his contract is up. Donnie Walsh made the playoffs 15 out of 16 years in Indiana as the GM, and he is great at rebuilding on the fly, plus we are getting a top 6 pick this year.

The 2009 pool of free agents is weak.

http://www.realgm.com/src_freeagents/2009/

Allen iverson will be 34(35 if he makes the finals that year), Jason Kidd will be 37 and Baron Davis bad back will have slowed him down. Boozer ain't ever coming back, Lamar will re-sign with the Lakers if they win a championship, so that leaves Elton Brand and the way he is talking it sounds like he wants to remain a Clipper. I feel Lebron is so damn good he just needs 1 legit star next to him to win a championship, but thankfully the 2009 FA pool is weak, I as a Knicks fan am just praying you guys don't swing a trade for an all-star in his prime like the Lakers did with Gasol.

It is kinda interesting that you have some Cavs fans agreeing with the Knicks fans (of course for different reasons). on the Cavs trading for Randolph. That can't be a good thing.
