Who would win in a 2 on 2? Which duo would you rather have right now? Which duo would you rather build around?

The physical abuse Roy and Gay would unleash on Monta and Martin in the post would be priceless.

Roy/Gay cant stop a fastbreak onslaught by Ellis/Martin...Or stop their automatic mid range jumpers... :)

They also couldn't get a rebound or get an uncontested shot if it wasn't a fastbreak scenario
Thank you for all the memories BRoy. You were a class act and brought hope to an entire region for 5 years. You will be missed.

Umm, Martin has a GREAT first step and WILL draw a foul on ANY opponent. So, either way, Martin scores on anyone. Also, Martin's jumpshot has a GREAT elevation/fading away to the left hard. So, basically un-guardable shot. Ellis has a great step too and will blow past defenders if he sees a crack on defense...

Eh, Martin/Ellis are great rebounders for their positions...So, eh...Martin is currently 4.4ish (It was around 4.8-5ish last month but he focussed more to scoring thus his rebounding #'s are mid 4s). Ellis, no need to explain.

lol who the **** plays with fouls in 2 vs. 2

Martin and Ellis get abused by the bigger and just as athletic players in Roy and Gay. In fact, Gay would dunk the ball every time.

The NBA!

Seriously, you have a point. But everyone gets killed by eachother. Ellis/Martin cant stop Roy/Gay. And Roy/Gay cant stop Martin/Ellis. It will be an all out offensive display from everyone. Assuming that this is a fullcourt situation, Ellis/Martin kills them...If it is halfcourt, it could go either way...Martin could be successful in either halfcourt/fullcourt. Probably samething as Ellis...Roy is the best halfcourt player. Gay could be successful in either like Martin...

considering my answer and NetsForce answer are the only people who seem to be able to be impartial on this issue (every other post is coming from a fan of the team one of these players are on), I think it is safe to say Gay and Roy win. Gay and any one of those players would probably win, because Gay is just flat out too athletic for any of these players to stop in a pick-up game.

Wouldn't a better matchup be Roy and Martin vs. Gay and Ellis?

I think that Roy and Gay would win because Gay is by far the biggest iirc and so who'll stop him if he posts up? sure, ellis can get to the rim at will but gay isnt a bad weakside shotblocker and Roy can play good D on him.

Who would I rather have to build around? again, I'm going to have to go with Gay and Roy. Martin and Ellis are both SGs really so what's the point in that? With Roy and Gay, you have a whole lot more versatility with Roy being a natural combo guard and Gay being a natural SF.

Who's better right now? Roy and Gay. Simply because I think that Roy > Martin and Gay <= Ellis

2 on 2? Gay and Roy. They're too big. They'd post them all game long. Ellis would stick Roy and Martin would stick Gay. Roy had 3 inches and almost 50 pounds on Ellis, Gay 2 inches and almost 40 pounds on Martin. Thats huge. Huge. I can't state that enough. That's a huge advantage.

It would be but I wanted to see if you guys think that speed can beat size. Imo, it's a fair comparison.

Who cares about 2 on 2, I'd rather have Roy/Gay now, and Roy/Gay in the future.

Kevin Martin is a better shooter than Gay. He's not a better player than Gay.

these kind of threads are always kind of hilarious, but I think we limit our amusement by unimaginatively confining it to NBA players...

for instance, who'd win in a 2 v 2:

Brandon Roy & Jennifer Lopez VS Kevin Martin & Madonna

another:

Rudy Gay & Nancy Kerrigan VS Monta Ellis & Tonya Harding
