Who are the best assistants that deserve to be a Head Coach?

Who are some of the top candidates for assistant coaches, that have paid there dues in the league and are highly regarded?

For a team that is looking to replace their Head Coach like the Knicks, Bucks, Bulls, or T-wolves who is all out there as far as up and coming young bright coaches (not the old retreaded ones)?

Tom Thibodeaux of the Boston Celtics for sure. He has changed them defensively and has shown he can make every player play defense through the whole game. I don't know about any other assitants.

Don't get me wrong, I admire Thibodeau as one of the top defensive coaches in the league, but I think it was KG who instilled the defensive mindset on the Celtic players more so than Tom. Coming from the C's players themselves, they've said in a number of interviews that KG is the one that pressures them into playing defense.

But back on topic, Tom Thibodeau definitely deserves a head coaching job next season.

He deserves to be fired for his craptastic skills as a coach.

Seriously, he probably will have a worse record than last years worst record in the league.

He runs no definable offensive sets, except the high pick and roll. Other than that it's 1-on-1 ball.

Hasn't managed to teach any defense, at all, none, zip, nada, zilch, the big squadouche, goose egg, close your eyes, nothing. Runs a high school like zone, seriously. Watch it, it's hilariously sad.

Player rotations make NO sense at all, again, none, zero, zilch....and so on... There have honestly been times where, Jason Collins, Brian Cardinal, and Casey Jacobsen have been on the court for extended minutes at a time at THE SAME TIME, it's masochist basketball, I tell you.

Constantly coaches the bench, not the game, except to call the same "SOLID!" play every time down the court (any Grizz fan that can muster the will to witness this debacle of a team in person will agree with me, since it's the only thing you can hear besides the crickets and the squeak of shoes, at the forum). They really could save him from even attending the game by recording him and pushing a button and sending it over the loud speakers everytime the team transitions, or just let the 14 fans at the game yell it.


The owner of the team finally had to walk up to him during one of the home games in January and tell Iavaroni to stop playing Casey Jacobsen because he sucked so bad, he would be booed everytime he entered the game, yet for half the year he was our 6th man coming off the bench. NOT Hakim Warrick, not Juan Carlos Navarro, not Mike Conley, all of whom saw less time on the court for half the year until the owner told him to knock it off, it was Casey Jacobsen he went to. I would love to see what Casey has on Iavaroni to garner the amount of time he's spent on the court pretending to be an NBA player. This guy would have a hard time cracking the rotation of a special olympics squad.

Iavaroni was WAY OVERRATED last year and I was one of his biggest advocates last year. I was thrilled with his hire last year but, he's not a good coach.

He's probably gonna need a job in about 2 weeks, feel free to hire him, please do because the Grizz need some wins and any team with him as coach are almost automatic with him. WARNING, be prepared to have Casey Jacobsen as your starting......whatever....... on your team, apparently he has mad Iavaroni skills.

He really is a great coach, but I highly doubt that he will take over for Sloan. He's older than Sloan right now and I just don't think that LHM would hand the keys over to him knowing that he's gonna need a new one in less than 5 years. I bet that Scott Layden or Ty Corbin will take over for Jerry. I'd love to see Horny at head coach in the future when he has a little bit more coaching experience.

Scott Layden won't ever get a head coaching position in the NBA. Not after what he did to the Knicks.

The Jazz will most likely bring up Ty Corbin with Jeff Hornacek as the assistant, and then promote Horny.

I have often wondered why they don't have a 2nd unit game during the All star weekend that would be coached by the best assistant coaches instead of having that awful celebrety game.

Phil will leave once Jerry leaves im convinced of this. How many assistant coaches have a COY when the HC of that team doesnt? Only one I know is the Jazz. Amazing that Johnson has a COY but not sloan.
