Lakes Organization Has Lost Its Integrity
Apparently,
The Los Angeles Lakers are now running an MVP award campaign for Bryant.
http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-lak ... 7745.story
EXCERPT:
The Lakers usually let the fortunes of their players rest on their own achievements, but the team took the added step of sending out pro-Bryant material to NBA writers around the league.
The material was based on an old-style political election campaign and consisted of bumper stickers, campaign buttons, red suspenders and a letter from "campaign manager" Jerry Buss, who urged writers to vote for Bryant.
"From the owner on down, the organization feels that Kobe has had a season worthy of an MVP award," said Tim Harris, the Lakers' chief marketing officer and senior vice president of business operations. "Sending this out is not something we have historically done, but his performance and leadership warrants it."
MVP ballots are due when the regular season ends. The winner is usually announced during the second round of the playoffs, in mid-May.
------------------------------
This is an absolutely IDIOTIC idea to the nth degree. Im not sure Kobe can stop it, but if he can he MUST. Who wants it like that. And why want it at all. Just come out and tell the media that you dont care and if it happens it happens. PUT an end to this idiotic campaign.
Frankly, you shouldnt WANT it anyway....legacy is titles brother TITLES. Let the TITLES do the talking.

Hornets promote Paul & Scott for NBA awards
This has been going on for months. Fight fire with fire I guess.
Although I think the Lakers could've chosen the high horse and not get invloved in this, but after all the stuff the Hornets organizaton has pulled, who didn't expect this? The arcitle even says this has been a common practice...
EDIT: and by the way, since you're one of the biggest Kobe fans, you should know that Bryant has stated on multiple occasions (even in one of the most recent interviews that was in audio stream in one of the Daily Dimes on BSPN) that he doesn't really care about the award all that much. He said that while it would certainly be an honor to be named the MVP, he is much more concerned with getting the team healthy and winning a championship (or more, to that concern) in the future.

Bollocks.
There is no NBA player above wanting individual achievements. I do believe he cares more about a championship, but c

just merely delusional

Should have better taken that stuff to some random hospitals in the LA area and given it at the kids

All franchises are campaigning for awards for their employees. Why such a big deal about that?
And why you're so emotional about Kobe, JDawg?

Byrant did claim (several times thoughout the years) that he had a goal of winning the DPOY but never said he had a goal of winning MVP. Who can blame him though, from his POV the award is a sham.
Imo the defensive awards given out (All-D and DPOY) are actually the most sham-ish (?) of any. They are soooo much like the Gold Glove, ie about rep and status rather than actual play.

What do you seriously think he would say? "I really really want one" ?
Of course he says it isn't important but anyone who has watched him knows he's concerned about his legacy more then just about anyone else out there. He's always been a 'I want to win but I want to win my way' guy.
