Kobe's Car Jump

Post#1 » by JohnVancouver » Fri Apr 11, 2008 4:07 am

Did anyone see this before it was taken down off yahoo and other sites?
If not, Kobe is promoting a new3 Nike shoe and jumps, or so it appears, over an Aston Martin as it accelerates towards him.

Watched it several times and it looks real, though I'm sure it could have been gimmicked. If it is, how freaked will the lakers management be?

--- Just checked agaion before posting and it's back up on YouTube - have a look

I think TrueHoop's right (as usual) on this one:

http://myespn.go.com/blogs/truehoop/0-3 ... eting.html

I would bet any amount you want ... this is not real ... That would be 800 different kinds of contract violation. ... But, assuming no idiots try to copy this and hurt themselves, this is great viral marketing. If this doesn't get people talking, nothing will.

Definitely fake. His legs look all weird for a split second on his way down, no way it's real. And the video is on youtube, no one thought to look there?

No way that is real.

I figured it out. It is real. But...

Watch his shadow. It's on the side of the car. He did clear it, but he was to the side of the car.

Now, if he had been in front of the car, he'd probably have cleared it (he did jump high and well enough, so props for that), but it would've been a dumb thing to risk.

Still - awesome commercial.

Fake. His contract like all players contracts forbid such a stunt.

False. The car and Kobe were ever in the same shot together.

It's amazing what you can do with a computer, a multimillion dollar shoe company's budget, and a video camera.

Remember this?

The commercial is pretty cool, but I enjoyed the comments on the first website even more:

Ball Don't Lie will take no responsibility for any injury caused by trying to impress Ronny Turiaf.

It woulda been better if they had him raping a girl in his new kicks.

Nike is known for this kind of fake/extraordinary videos. Case in point Ronaldinho's Touch of Gold commercial http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lsO6D1rwrKc.

I still think this is the most likely senario.

It's generally well known that Nike has the best sports marketing firm, and it's not even close.

Yeah. That's one of the better commercials I've seen in awhile. Kobe could definitely clear it, but damn that would require some perfect timing and would be idiotic IMO.

Although thats the first great commercial since the Gatorade Michael Jordan "23 vs. 39" ad. It is hard to make a great commercial though, they are rare. The best era was probably when Spike Lee was working for Nike.

Well, at first seemed pretty real (i've watched once a martial artist doing this thing (live) in an exhibition here in my city)...but yes, it's not real =).

Very nice comercial, though.
