Back when I was in college, I used to play pickup ball regularly with members of our nationally ranked women's basketball team (top 5 at the time). (I actually went out with one of the team members until the season started. The "dates" were great -- play some ball, take a shower, order some food, and watch a movie. I digress.)

I was a decent high school player with good skills, but not a ton of athleticism. Plus, I was out of shape and coming off a dislocated knee that was still causing me problems. And, oh yeah, my shooting shoulder had this nasty habit of sliding out of socket whenever, and would soon need major surgery.

With all that in play, against these high quality women's players, I more than held my own.

Candace Parker is bigger, stronger and quicker than most women she plays against. In the NBA, she'd be smaller, weaker and slower than nearly everyone.

I think some just don't have a real good idea just how elite the NBA is. The athletes are phenomenal. Think about it -- very few male COLLEGE players are able to make the NBA. Elite male college players routinely struggle to make the NBA.

Parker couldn't even play NCAA men's basketball much less make the NBA.

I think she'd be getting one no matter if it was a good play, bad play, or if she was sitting the bench!!!!

No.

One hit to the tit and it's all over.

In the NBA, she'd be smaller, weaker and slower than nearly everyone.

That's an understatement. She would be tremendously smaller, weaker, and slower than everyone. This is the god damn NBA.

BTW, I agree as to NBA, but maybe she might be able to held her own in some weaker NCAA teams (Division III)?

I don't think the proper question is "Can she compete in the NBA right now?" but "What would it take for her (or a woman with similar size/athleticism) to complete in the NBA?"

The answer is they'd have to be one of the top three point shooters in the game. They'd have to be a specialist. It could definitely happen. Parker wouldn't be much worse on D than some of the three point specialists in the game right now. (In other words: Awful) Too bad she doesn't have enough of a shot.

She can't compete with NBA player's, but she will be the first WNBA player to have major endorsement deals . We're gonna be seeing lots of her on TV and in magazines.

i'd let her post me up and take a swipe at the ball and hope for a wardrobe malfunction ala Janet at the super bowl...

to hell wit it we would be breeding a bunch of super atheletic kids (I'm 6'3 225)

but she lost a bunch of cool points for being with shelden "my head is bigger than my potential" williams
