Splitter also earned the Quarterfinal Playoffs, Game 3 MVP honor by piling up the best performance index rating, 27, of three games this week. Splitter tallied 18 points, 9 rebounds and 2 blocks as Tau defeated Partizan Igokea 85-68 in a do-or-die third game to win their playoff series. He made 7 of 9 two-point shots and 4 of 5 free throws and also added 2 assists, a steal and 5 fouls drawn. This is the second time this season Splitter has earned weekly MVP honors, having also accomplished the feat back in Week 9 of the regular season.

3. The mission of Tiago Splitter. The Tau center had been featured in NBA mock drafts for several years before he was chosen last year by the Spurs with the No. 28 pick. Splitter had 18 points and nine rebounds to lead Tau to a 85-68 victory over the Serb club Partizan Igokea in its Game 3 quarterfinal Wednesday, but he is not seen as a future star for the Spurs.

"He is an up-and-down player,'' an NBA scout said of Splitter. "As good as he was in Game 3, he was disappointing in Game 2. He has had a good season without being flashy or spectacular. He hasn't put together amazing numbers, but he does the job as a solid contributor.''

Splitter has averaged 13.9 points and 5.2 rebounds in 22.3 minutes in the Euroleague this season.

I don't expect him to be a future "star" player... I'm quite happy with him as a tough, above-average complementary big man on both sides of the floor. Just the kind of younger big man this team needs in the near future.

Did anybody else see the Tau vs. CSKA semifinal game on NBATV today? Tau lost a close game, but Splitter was great. Incredible variety of low post moves, ability to draw fouls...definitely the MVP for Tau. However, he wasn't that fleet of foot on defense (spent a large amount of the 2nd half in foul trouble), and his FT shooting was woeful (he'll have company here!). And he's so young...bright future with us, IMO.

It will be interesting to see if both Splitter and Ian are on the roster next year. We might only be able to get one on the roster. If theyplan on Ian getting on the team, look for Tiago to stay another year over there.

actually i heard if the spurs dont bring him over his buyout is going to be expensive. so do or die next year for the spurs and splitter.

Yes, Splitter is definitely coming over next year. The buyout issue is correct, but even if it wasn't we'd bring him over anyways. After all, next year our front court will consist of Oberto and Bonner. Why wouldn't they both be on the team? We'll be losing Horry, Stoudamire, and possibly Barry and Thomas, though I think they'll resign Thomas to the vet min or so. But we'll have lots of holes to fill, and Ian and Tiago will be two cheap pieces for us to add.

I'd get rid of Bonner for ANYTHING we can get for him..he's kind of a useless piece if we're keeping Thomas and Oberto, +Splitter and Ian..

I see several other people are overlooking we'll get younger in the off-season... obviously not having the awareness of this team's roster situation internally and externally.

And yeah, I think both Splitter/Mahinmi will be on the roster. But one of them is going to be in the rotation, or both will get their chances, w/ a veteran backing up the other spot (Oberto/Thomas or Diop). Not sure what would go on for them with the playoffs, but, maybe we'd sign another veteran PF for insurance and more experience. If not using Bonner.

Be interesting to see how things shape up around the starting big men, and with Horry retiring. I actually think if he wanted to, he could go another year .

No, because Bonner was a future replacement for Horry. He will be our only big man who can shoot three next year. That's why we should keep Bonner.

We will have Splitter, Thomas, Oberto, Duncan and Mahinmi next year. Mahinmi still learning and an spend next year in NBDL. Splitter is unproven for NBA. Thomas is to valuable to be spent in regular season and Duncan will not play more than 30 minutes in regular season too. Oberto is also aging. That's the another reason to keep Bonner.

The final score was 83-79 CSKA. The Russians are going to the Euroleague final for the third straight year in a row. This is their sixth straight appearance in the Final Four. They had five players finish with double digit scoring. Tiago Splitter had 17 points for Tau on 5-7 shooting from the field. He was terrific with his back to the basket inside, commanding double teams and finding the open man, using nice pivot moves and even hitting a pretty swooping hook shot in the lane. Maybe the 7-14 he shot from the free throw line will convince him to work on getting rid of the ugly hitch he has in his mechanics from the line, but regardless, there is no question that the San Antonio Spurs got a huge stud

No reason to just ship Ian out, with all the expectations our FO has for him. Diop would be nice to pair next to Timmy, but his progression has kind of trailed off after a couple solid seasons, so I'm not sure he would be worth giving a big chuck of our salary cap to. If we could get something for Bonner, I'd ship him out in a heart beat. It was a nice idea, but the guy is just not a baller. Maybe it's just a matter of confidence, but he hasn't been worth a damn in two years here, so personally I don't have much faith that he'll magically find his confidence and actually earn some playing time.
