Roseorbust's Elite Eight

Post#1 » by penbeast0 » Fri Apr 11, 2008 9:44 pm

Finally starting to dump some of the pretenders (ok, except you Deron) and have genuine MVP candidates. Who is the one you would take to be the centerpiece of your title contender this year . . . and into the future?

Tim Duncan or
Deron Williams

Kobe Bryant or
Kevin Garnett

LeBron James or
Chris Paul

Dwight Howard or
Dirk Nowitski

Deron Williams
Kobe Bryant
Chris Paul
Dirk Nowitkzi

The reason why I picked Deron over Tim Duncan because he has 15 more years in the NBA. Tim Duncan probably about 5 more kinda sorta quality years left. He also makes everyone better as a PG. LeBron James is great, but his jumper is flawed, and when he gets to 25, I have a feeling injuries will plague him.

Howard is a complete beast, but I just don't see him dominating the league like Shaquille. His mere presence should have gotten the Magic deep into the playoffs, or at least to the extent of not being swept. It took Turkoglu to give the Magic some success.

what evidence do you have that he will get injuries rather then chris paul, whos injuries have already hit worse.

You have to consider the source, Duiz is the same one who has posted

"I think that (Chris Paul) is already better than Frazier and Thomas, and Deron is too. "

and

"The real question is if Chris Paul will end up with a better career than Michael Jordan. Kobe Bryant should be asking himself if he can pull off miracles and have a career more prolific than Paul."

Just assume anything he writes should be in a green font.

lmao.. I have been in a very sarcastic mood this morning specially about the GOATness of Paul, but still, I do give notches to Chris Paul and Deron Williams.

Their offensive presence and their development at their age is absolutely sick for a PG. You said to consider future, and considering that Timmie D is 32 year old, Deron is 23 years old. Right now, his prime years are ending, and Deron is not even peaking right now, and his efficiency is just a few points behind Duncan's. The second best PF of all time, and the best playoff PF of all time, he is definetly great. nothing to steal from him and his greatness, even if the numbers don't necessarily show it, but Duncan will be Sam Cassell in 4 years, almost useless but for his career forte, in this case defense.

The Chris Paul and LeBron James pick, I think it is a lot on personal opinion. I think that LeBron James is great making his teamates better too, and definetly taller and much better scoring machine, but Chris Paul is the guy you won't pay 30 million dollars to, and you will still be able to win championships. Plus, his jumper to me is still very unreliable. To beat a James team, you have to lockdown James. To bet a Paul team, you have to lockdown the whole team.

Duncan
Garnett - TBH Garnett/Kobe is a wash, but I picked KG because is team has a better record this season.
James
Nowitzki - I don't see how anyone could pick Howard. Dirk will get your team a better record in the regular season and take your team deeper into the playoffs. He's just the more dominant player simply put....

It's supposed to be in the present and future. But I don't see how losing in the 1st round is taking your deeper into the playoffs.
