Bosh vs Jamison vs Brand

Post#1 » by Live Free » Fri Apr 11, 2008 4:39 pm

I got in a heated debate with a couple guys i know and one went on to say Jamison has the best numbers, but most of it was just a jock ride from a wizards fan. The other guy just claimed that Brand is a beast who put up 20 and 10 as a rookie and lead the Clippers through the playoffs not too long ago.. I held Bosh down by letting the chumps know that CB is a legit franchise player who put the raptors on the map and is just eating competition without any gilbert arenas or chris kaman.. what do you guys think?

Bosh is not a franchise player, either is Jamison.

Brand is the only franchise player on this list. He is a dominant two-way player, and you have to take him even though he is 6 years older than Bosh.

Bosh will need to be a 2nd option on a contending team, Jamison will need to be a 3rd, Brand can be a first option.

Honestly, this isn't close. Bosh could reach max-potential and still not be better than Brand. Bosh doesn't play defense or crash the boards hard.

I'm taking Bosh moving forward, easily. He's much younger than Brand and still has some room to grow. Brand is slowly getting up there in age and will be coming off serious knee surgery next season. Jamison shouldn't even be in this discussion.

There's only a few franchise players in the league. CB's close, but not quite.

I don't think any qualify as a legit franchise player, beyond that vague distinction that is given to players who are their franchise's best player, and even then I don't think AJ qualifies.

I would say that of these Brand has come the closest to being a legit franchise player, but seems to have maxed out at a lower level and now, with health issues, will probably never get much better.

I would say that Bosh, too, is maxing out below a legit franchise player and below Brand's overall impact when at his best, but of the three, given age and Brand's health, I would probably choose him fairly easily as the guy of the three I would most want.

Jamison, I don't really get why he's here. He's a level or two below either of these guys, and a few below anything like a franchise player. Extremely solid player, great team guy, a real pro, all that...but nothing like a franchise player.

CB has a long time to learn defense and Rasho along with Sam Mitchell seem to be giving him pointers here and there which isn't bad coming from guys who played alongside KG and Timmy D. He is a franchise player and a number one option on a championship team, don't get it wrong. The man has the tools and the teachers to be a number one guy. If he isn't there yet, he is damn close.

No disrespect intended, but Jamison shouldn't be in the discussion.

Non-beleiver. Like the man can't learn or something. Rasho ans Sam are willing to teach and Chris is willing to learn.

I would just like to put out that I loved Jamison at UNC, and I love him as an offensive threat but....

he honestly might be the worst defensive PF in the league. People rag on Randolph and Boozer, but I am not sure which is the worst out of the 3.

A) I disagree.

B) I had meant, and did elsewhere in this discussion, specify 5 years of significant play. A guy who sits for 3 or so years might not get the chance to show enough for us to gauge him, yes. Not so much a guy who started for 5.

For me it would depend on the situation. If i were starting a team (like the bobcats a few years back). i would probably pick bosh, because chances are you're going to have a few more great picks coming up (i dont think bosh is the type of guy you want to build around solely, i look at him as more of a Gasol/Odom type guys, that would do more damage as a support star).

However if it is just a franchise looking to rebuild (like Bucks, or Knicks, no offence) i would take brand. the sole reason is that an already established franchise would not have many problems getting right back into the flow. but a completely new franchise like the with the Bobcats and you're looking at wasting the first 5 years, in which case Brand will probably be 35 before you make the playoffs.

He has actually improved his defense tremendously this off-season. Last season, I would totally agree with you that he was the worst defensive power forward in the game. His mechanics were horrible. His effort wasn't there, and to be honest, a lot of us were wondering if he had the abilities to be a decent defender.

But apparently, bringing in a defensive assistant coach (Randy Ayers), and AJ being in a contract year really made him put some time in practicing his defense, and effort into defending his man. At this point, I can safely say he's an average defensive power forward. Nothing special, but certainly a huge improvement.

As for the thread itself, I agree that Antawn shouldn't even be in the discussion. He's having himself an awesome year and all, but in terms of being a franchise player, he just isn't one. Bosh and Brand are damn close, and both rank higher than Jamison (as much as I like and respect the man).
