There are rumors that the Yankees are all over SP Mike Montgomery for the 1st round tomorrow. He's a left hander, just coming out of HS. Hes very tall (6'5'') with a great frame and a plus fastball that sits in the low 90s but touches 93-94 with room for improvement. We'll see if its just rumors or fact. You have to welcome a tall, young, lefty pitcher with a plus fastball...how many of those are there in baseball right now?

im not sure if he'll be there when we pick, but dont u think we need to look at other positions to develop? i mean we already are a very pitching heavy farm (granted not many lefties)

You can go either way I guess. The way I look at it is that you always go best player (or really highest ceiling). Minor league players have a low success rate, so you have to take a shot with the best as often as you can. Also, I don't think going by need is necessary. By the time these kids reach the majors (3-4 years from now) the team's needs are completely changed.

I think it is best to stock the farm system up with as much high level talent as possible, and worry about filling in the holes at a different time. We certainly lack in some position player depth and are stacked with pitching in the minors, but hitters come along on the FA market every offseason while pitching must be developed from within. This is what the Yanks have been doing the past couple of years and are hoping it pays off.

This is a very big draft for us I feel. If we can bring in a ton of talent via draft and the IFA , then I feel our system will be top 3 for the next few years.

In this regard, my biggest hope is for Eric Hosmer but he won't fall out of top 10. If Alonso falls WE must take him, but if not, then I'm hoping for Tim Melville or Gerrit Cole.

With the 106th pick, the Yankees Select David Adams from Virgina. Second Base.

Say he is Jeff Kent like.
