If I had posed a question "what if the Hornets are the top seed in the west", everyone would say, "LOL, not gonna happen, but CP3 would be MVP hands down."

Same if I said Paul would put up these ridiculous numbers on the top team out West.

during the Kobe-Lebron MVP debate at a time when Paul was not in the debate, I brought up why Lebron doesn't guard Garnett when they argue that Kobe can't guard Lebron. their response was why should Lebron guard a center when he plays small forward. I found that response amusing.

Kobe played well, definately boosted his chances. For me its still going to come down to who gets the number 1 seed in the West. You can't just automatically give Kobe the trophy because of one game. Paul had a 19 and 21 game ealier in the year against the Lakers but I wouldn't say that automatically gives him the award. I'm sure this game won't have too much to do with voters final decisions. Remember last year when Nash dominated the Mavs in that amazing double OT game? Ya, didn't change much in the voting despite the eventual MVP's massive choke show and Nash's 1324 clutch plays.

Its not like they dominated the Hornets during the year or anything. The Lakers won last night by 3...at home. Yes, Kobe stepped up but this game hardly makes the MVP race any clearer. Like I said for me it comes down to who gets that number one seed and I'm sure its going to be the same for a lot of voters.

he's big, stays within the team concept, doesn't foul much

Is being 1/2 or 1 game up in standing big enough to determine the MVP?

^^um no, Nothing needed to be said all I needed to do his put the emphasis on the 3rd quarter part and I felt I got my point across. G35 made a great post, talking about how the 4th quarter is were stars/MVPs show up, cftjk comes back talking about a portion of the game that took place in the 3rd quarter, which really wasn't much of a rebuttal and doesn't take anything away from G35 argument.

PER is such a useless statistic to compare one player to another. Kobe is doubled and tripled every time he touches the ball. That desn't show up in the PER. Paul is not doubled int he same way.

Paul is a terrific player. But if you compare the records between the Lakers and the Hornets when each team has had at least 4 of their starting 5 there, Lakers are way, way ahead. Hornets have had a healthy team all season. Lakers haven't, and still aren't healthy. They traded Cook adn Evans for a player who has missed 30 games. Bynum has been out for months. Gasol wasn't even here for most of the season, and has been injured half the time he has been here. Kobe is playing with a TORN FREAKING LIGAMENT ON HIS SHOOTING HAND FOR GOD'S SAKE.

This whole "whoever wins the west should get the mvp" argument is absurd based on injury comparison alone.

What about based on the "who's producing on an all-time level" argument? Or that one doesn't count?

Kobe: Leading a team through alot of injuries

Paul: Leading a team with one of the best seasons by a PG ever.

If anything, Paul wins that contest, but it's very close because Kobe's still having a good year himself. That's why winning the West decides it.

again Kobe doesn't make it easier on teammates at all. he sets them up for three pointers. not in their sweetspots. just open three pointers. Paul gives people dunks, layups, open mid range AND open three point shots. Plus, his foul trouble was bull last night. the refs knew that this was like a playoff game and they shouldve officiated it like one. they called 2 ticky tack calls on Paul and that caused him to sit for 5 minutes of the 4th quarter.

^see you fail again because there is a stat that shows kobe has higher % of his assists in the paint. I remember when reading Kobe vs. LeBron debate couple of months ago. I'd appreciate it if someone could post that again.

And assists by LeBron or Kobe is the reason for zone defense preventing inside scoring and forcing out side shots. They're open shots if they hit it we blow teams out just like we've been doing this seasons, so here you fail once again.You can't spin any more spin doctor because the season is almost over and just like many said everything will be set and done when it ends.

BTW while he was sitting on the bench Peja went on massive 3 point frenzy that set the game to 1 point difference. Of course cp3 set him up from the bench on those threes.

BTW your sounding as if lakers have problems with offense. They don't they can score 100+ points on bad shooting night by scrubs because of kobe,we had problem with consistently playing defense thru 4th quarter, its nothing new everyone predicted a come back and lakers shivering up after the half.
