Dallas or Phoenix, who do you want play in the 1st round between those 2?

You guys will get the #3 seed no matter what happens the rest of the way, but you can end up with the #2 seed or even #1 seed.

Here is my take on the situation in case you guys get the #2 seed or the #3 seed. If you get the #1 seed then this point is moot.

Two ways to view this.

1.) If you get the #3 seed this would make the 3rd time in a row playing Phoenix, but this time you have the homecourt advantage. If the Lakers were to win this series it would go a long way showing they were able to overcome that huddle. However, if the Lakers were to lose I think it could effect the teams psyche a lot because it would show that even with the better record and seed that it wasn't enough to overcome the Suns.

2.) Dallas is a good team however more than likely will end up being the 7 seed out west. It would be good to knock off the Mavs and I think you stand a better chance against them, but once again if the Lakers were to lose this series it would be considered an upset and that wouldn't sit well for the team either.

For instance,

Playoff Upsets

No. 7 beating No. 2
-------------------

New York def. Miami, 3-2, 1998 Eastern Conference first round
Golden State def. San Antonio, 3-1, 1991 Western Conference first round
Golden State def. Utah, 3-0, 1989 Western Conference first round
Seattle def. Dallas, 3-1, 1987 Western Conference first round

A #7 beating a #2 has happened 4 times in a 5 game series since 1984, however it has yet to happen in a 7 game series.

Personally I think the best matchup of these two teams would be the one that would propel the team the most and that would be Phoenix even though Dallas would be the better matchup overall.

I always have felt that the team you want to beat the most is the team that has beaten you in the past few seasons.

I'd like both. But if to answer you're question I'd take Dallas because they can't and don't have anyone to guard Kobe. Neither does Phoenix but I'd take Dallas right now.

I want Dallas. I think the Suns have as much of a chance to go all the way as much as the Spurs have.

new orleans is about to lose to sactown. that would put us tied for first place seed. but if playoffs started today, we'd be first since we have a better record against the conference.

I want Denver!!!!!!!! NOH just lost to Sactown. With two more wins, Lakers should lock up the 1 seed, Kobe wins MVP!

but this is dangerous because denver just lost meaning theres still a chance that lakers and Worriors play first round. I dont care what anyone says, That to me is NO good!!!

Yep. We're going to play Denver.

But.. for the purposes of the topic, i'd rather play Dallas first round; Phoenix can come later.

With Bynum being out for the season most likely, id rather face Dallas. Even though there not exactly easy. That's still a difficult 1st round matchup.

The Suns frontline of Shaq and Amare would cause a lot of problems with Gasol not being a physical player, and even though Lamar has played well,he's not on Amare's level.

Id rather face Dampier and Nowitski if i had to make a choice.

Hopefully we can get 1# seed and played Denver and avoid both dallas and phoenix.

Looking at how the Spurs and Lakers can be #1 this game is huge for both teams. IF they end in a tie and the Spurs win today the Spurs get the HC over the Lakers no matter what. I'm sure the Spurs would rather play Denver than Dallas or Phoenix as well.

Source: LATimes

The Lakers (55-25) are now tied with the Hornets, but they they own the tiebreaker in conference record. They lead the Spurs (54-25) by half a game, and a Lakers victory today clinches at least second place in the West.

A Lakers loss, however, gives San Antonio the advantage in the first playoff tiebreaker, head-to-head games, which the Spurs currently own, 2-1.

If i had to choose between the two. Id take Dallas for now. Considering that we dont have anyone big to withstand shaqs strength besides the Congo man DJ. I feel better without a Bynum or Ariza on the bench to take the Mavs. But honestly this could all change with the west is so close together.

Normally I say give me the Suns but I am gonna have to cop out and say neither because what if for 1 round Shaq rewinds time and becomes Shaq.
If you take away the phobia I take the Suns. Kidd scares me more then Nash in the playoffs, Dirk and Amare is a wash and then you add Josh Howard I want the Suns a little more then the Mavs.

Honestly I would rather play the Hornets, Jazz, Rockets, Nuggs, Spurs.
The Mavs and Suns are the 2 teams I fear the most so I am really hoping for 1st place.

Who ever comes, will be really tough.

Maybe i would prefer Dallas but i guess that we can take the 1st place in the conference so we will face Denver or GS :-?
