Agreed, especially since if you were able to move the duo of Carter/Hassell for expirings (Cleveland), you would potentially be set up for max cap room in 09/10. While it wouldn't be a playoff team in 08/09, a core of Harris, Jefferson, Beasley, Boone, S. Williams and another lottery pick would have to be pretty appealing.

Uh, what? :dontknow:

How do you proclaim we get our hands on the 1st or 2nd overall pick and get Beasley?

Also, I would imagine Cleveland would rather have RJ.
VC is a ball dominant player as is Lebron.

I would think they would rather have a slashing guy like RJ, who can still create his own shot.

Rod is gonna go one of 2 ways with this team.

Complete rebuild or complete overhaul.

Stay tuned.

That is a broad statement, it is going to be one or the other.

Most of the guys believe that we are going to rebuild get rid high paying contracts . Can anyone give one example of a team that rebuild and within two to three years became a playoff team with young talent?
The "Turnpike" deserve a NBA championship!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Exactly.

People here are blinded by the Carter factor. No way we beat out Boston, Detroit, and the Cavs for the next 2-3 years in the playoffs. Why waste time? Rebuild! So we dont make the playoffs for the next 4 yrs. We get picks, develop our young guys, get a better coach, clear cap space, and then we content.

I'm pretty sure if we snag a potential franchise player in the draft we completely rebuild soon but if we can't do that we won't .

You need a young franchise player to build around if you start from the bottom . No GM will completely trade his leading players if he doesn't have new cornerstones for the franchise to replace them .

Expiring contracts only make sense if you a) have plans for FA's once these contracts expire b) are very cheap and like to save money

If you don't plan do use the capspace you got once the exprings are gone or need to save money at all costs why to aquire them ?

We will look for good young players and decent-good picks for Vince and RJ .If we can't get that they will stay . We'll allways be able to get pure expirings for them since i don't expect a huge dropoff from both don't settle for them unless you already know what you do with the capspace.

if we got beasly, i doubt VC or RJ are moving.

PG: Harris / Williams
SG: Carter / FA / Ager
SF: Jefferson / FA / Hassell
PF: Beasley / Swill
C: Boone / Diop

thats how i think its gonna pan out if we had beasley , he would be such a nice fit in an uptempo team, and this way we could play half court ball, because now you have 3 threats instead of 2.

I just don't get it.
How do we get the 1st or 2nd overall pick to get Beasley?!

While you're trading for that make sure you call up San An and tell them to send us Duncan, he is clearly past his prime and it's time for them to rebuild.

Idiot.

...ever heard of the lottery?

No offense to you but I'm really surprised at how many people on RealGM don't know how the lottery works

I understand how the lottery works, and know it is a very slight possibility we get lucky with the 1st or 2nd pick, but the chances are next to nil and you almost make it sound like a given thing we will end up with one of those picks, or like it will be easy to trade for one of them.

Rod picks up phone and dials, "Hey. Rod here in New Jersey. How's the wife and kids?"

Kevin Mchale on the other end, "Pretty good. How bout you? Anyway, what's up?"

Rod, "Wanted to trade you our 9th pick for your 2nd overall. We'll even throw in Maurice Ager. What do you think?"

Mchale, "Maurice Ager! Your 9th overall?! Man sounds like a steal! I got this Al Jeff kid, but he's kinda tall and goofy. And this Foye kid, he's from Newark. Hey that just got me thinking, he should play closer to his home and family. Send me Trenton Hassel for Foye and you gotta deal."

Rod, "I don't know Kev. I have to give up my best wing defender just to get this Randy kid? I'll tell you what, send me your 1st rounder next year, non-lotto protected and we have a deal."

Mchale, "Sounds great! I'll fax over the paper work right now!"

Mchale thinks to himself, "I don't know how I do it. I am the best GM in the World! Bwahahahah."

Rod thinks to himself, "I hope Lawerence doesn't get mad I'm trading away Trebt for another young guy. Sometimes I really question my decision making skills."

^^ I know it's extremely hard to pull off a trade for the #1 or #2 overall pick and I'm not at all expecting for that to happen. What I was saying in response to you being dumbfounded about the idea of getting the #1 or #2 overall pick was that there is the chance of the balls going in our favor.

Sorry VC4P but only Danny Ainge has that phone number. I think they are hammering out a deal for brian scalabrine and the number 1 or 2 pick. Cos danny said the salaries match so Mchale thinks its a fair deal.
Can Frank coach the kids?
